What's the latest on this?

I have a ton of material to include on a DVD for this (was my own project until real world work took over) and actually have a pretty cool thing: Disney's 1990s television distribution version of the film on BetaSP.

It's in PAL, BUT...is a top-end NTSC conversion, so there's no speed/pitch probs (movie runs correct 94 mins). Again my prob is getting this from BetaSP to DVD (and having the time to do it).

For hard core animation fans, I have a bunch of other stuff as well (Gene Kelly's Invitation To The Dance, the cut Martins And The Coys opening from Make Mine Music...) I was thinking of putting together an "Animation Archive Collection" but time and work get in the way.

Hey gang I now have three versions of this and will be tossing them in the player this weekend to get more details about them AFTER I figure out which is the best of the set I'll upload it to PIRATEBAY, I may even start to collect all the extra stuff out there before hand so we can gather the best SOTS DVD yet!

Were you able to find out which dvd version looked best. By the way, three songs from the film were released on different sing along videos. Zip a Dee Doo Dah, I love to laugh and friend like me. I believe I saw one of the sing a long videos on dvd at Best Buy. That might be worth investigating.

EXTRA INFORMATION - This seems to be the oldest version without asian subtitles and was also the same version that was reportedly being sold via SongOfTheSouth.net, apperently sourced from Korean laserdisc for the DVD. I've gotten this version in multiple trades over the last few years and from I bought a copy from eBay in 2001.

UPDATE: 7/9/06

I've gotten a report that this was sourced from the Korean laserdisc, I'm not 100% sure of the source but if the video is from laserdisc they did a very poor transfer as the video really looks like VHS to me.

EXTRA INFORMATION - This DVD is a reauthored version of the “Coal Black Easter Egg” version. The creator of the DVD has added english subtitles that can be selected on and off as well as adding the "Coal Black" as a Special Feature instead of a hidden egg. I'm really not sure how old this version is but I got my first copy of this one about 6 months ago.

I'll need to get the other versions so I can compair them with the other two, I do think that the copy I have with onscreen Japanese Subs is from the Japanese LD the picture is a bit nicer but sadly the DVD will not copy

Okay, the old Sing-a-long videos have started this year coming out to dvd. I think it would be a good idea to include the songs from SotS as a bonus feature if that hasn't been done already. If the words aren't burned in subtitles, do you think it would be a good idea to use the dvd footage.

Nope, that would ruin the preservation and create a composite edit (I'm no fan of composites as I hate the jump from good to bad quailty)

I would suggest grabbing the DVD if you're a fan of SOTS or if you have kids

They say they have the movie on dvd, laserdisc sourced, uncut, without subtitles, region free and not copy protected. Was anyone able to try this one out?

If you check out the screen captures you'll see that it's the same version as I posted above...

This is spectacular RIK. I am really looking forward to this, I had the uncut version but your menus and material look great.

Bravo!! ;-)

I love what you did!!!

I just mailed Waterworld and Mad Max , however, it's a Sunday so it will not go out til the morning.

Remember, Highlander, you’ve both still got your full measure of life. Use it well, and your future will be glorious.

If it has Japanese subtitles only during the songs, it's from the laserdisc. If they're through the entire film, it's from the Japanese VHS.

That Disney vault parody is hilarious. And dead on too. There was a similar spoof made just for Bambi 2002. I've seen the video in better shape on youtube, even though they compress their videos like crazy. What's up with video being from a beat up tape and window boxed on all four sides. I mean, did Lucasfilm upload it.

I was so dissapointed in the quality and the fact that I could not copy it from youtube, then Saturday Night Live repeated it and I was able to record it. I do have it in decent quality.
