I assume it had to have been written somewhere, but that's one of those things that just needs to be in the movie if it's supposed to end up as important as George claims. I can understand never mentioning the types of ships or the Ewoks by name, but just passing off this "real mother" line like it's common knowledge is just a bit sloppy, in my opinion.
