Unfortunately, those tapes vanished one black day and were never recovered! They may have been stolen by some unscrupulous visitor to our home...
I replaced my loss with the 1991 widescreen editions, which I still have and are serving as my 'workhorse' tapes.
I also own the 1995 widescreen editions, which are with my parents and have hardly ever been played. These constitute my time capsule for the OOT.
Finally, I have the 1997 widescreen tapes in the silver box set. It didn't occur to me, until I read of your plans to commit the first "special editions" to DVD, that these versions are now, too, under threat, after the changes made for the latest DVD versions. Presumably Mr Lucas has determined these versions as being also not representative of his "artistic" "vision".
At the moment I find it difficult to justify the cost of a DVD recorder unit, therefore my plans to back-up my tapes are on hold. I am very interested in all of the variations between releases that you have discovered as you have been engaged on this venture. I will certainly be interested to follow your exploits...
