Sure, there have been plenty of releases for LOTR, too many perhaps in the short period of time between the theatrical releases and now. But there is a major difference as to why think Jackson and Lucas are different. There is a theatrical release available, and a high-quality one. Until now, there was only the 04 SE available. Now the OOT is getting released, but as a 'special feature' and with questionable quality. In addition, PJ hasn't ran the theatrical versions of his movies down and claimed the "original vision" bit. So I say that he is ok. I don't see how he is the same as Lucas.
In addition, saying that there is only one SW trilogy released isn't quite true. There was the '04 DVDs with bonus disc, then the '05 DVDs without bonus disc, now the upcoming September release with the films packaged individually and the OOT as a bonus disc. Only the last release has something new. All the LOTR sets have had something different on them. Different films, different bonus features, etc.
