The Phantom of the Opera Resynched (Released) — Page 3

But they're back! Did you check out the entrance page? Hysterical!

Oh, yeah. Got the Resynch D/Led. It's pretty great. The jerkiness of the image is distracting at first, but it's not unwatchable. The Laser sword/fireball scene is a bit strange, but I like the effort. Maybe put some flame trails on everything ala Sleeping Beauty to make it more fire like.

All in all, though. a nice addition to my Phantom collection. Great job!

Thanks, Dr. Faustus! If you're a fan of musicals, check out my extended cut of The Producers too. I'll work on an extended cut of Rent soon.

Haha, "The Police Bay" -- that's hilarious!

I realized that there won't be a simple way to make a high-quality version without re-editing the whole thing from scratch -- I initially used 640x272 source files so I built my project using those dimensions, and Premiere doesn't allow the dimensions of a project to be changed -- if I substitute the XviD source with the original DVD files frameserved using AviSynth, I would have to resize it first, which would mean great loss of (especially) vertical resolution, which kinda defeats the purpose of using a HQ source anyway.

So . . . I shall redo it, but perhaps not right away. And hopefully I'll be able to get that d*mn flaming sword right.

Will the Pirate Bay be shut down permanently? I wanted a chance to download it!

It is? I'm still getting "File Not Found" on every torrent I try at that site.

Well, the recent torrents are working now, but the older ones (including PotO:R) are still "Not Found."

Hey, Wmgan. I sent you an email attached with a quick and dirty flaming sword effect. Let me know what you think.

Whoa, that looks really sweet! I'll check out Particle Illusion -- it looks like I can achieve what I was going for. Thanks, Caligula!

Just read the Wikipedia post on the May raid. PotO:R is probable unavailable since it is considered "copyrighted material." Planning to post it anywhere else?

Hmm could someone who has the .torrent file post it somewhere (isohunt, demonoid, etc.)? I accidentally deleted the one on my computer. Thanks!

Well, I finally got a torrent of it working, but now it's dead still at 68%. I'll wait as long as it takes, but at least I know it's moving. I'm interested in seeing how it is, but my AVIPreview will only show me the first two seconds. Is there anything I can do to make it show more, or do I just have to grin and bear it until it finishes?

I managed to find the torrent on my computer after all. I'll start seeding it again when I'm back in the States in a week.

Excuse me, wmgan, but can you tell where you're seeding from and which version you're seeding? In the time since my last post, my download for the Divx version has only gone from 68% to 77%. If it'll make it go faster, I'll just start downloading from wherever you're seeding.

I'm now seeding the DVD-5 version. I lost the DivX version's torrent file and TPB is no longer hosting it, for whatever reason.

I can't find PotO:R on the Pirate Bay. What site is it on? Or does it matter?

Unfortunately, you'll have to search for it... I don't know why they disappeared from TPB.

Why don't you send me the torrent file for the DivX version, and I'll seed it. My e-mail address is ganwuiming@gmail.com .

I'd love a copy of this on DVD. Could you please let me know if/where you are seeding this.

Thanks

How did this edit come out? I've been very curious about it.

Has it been upped anywhere?

It's actually got me thinking of another possible ALW edit... a very... odd... one.

Now, the recent movie of The Producers -- that's the way a movie musical should be made (and I know I'm going to get lots of argument on this). Great singing, great acting. Those are the things that really count.

I'll side with you there. The movie has great singing and acting, but I think its strongest point was that it felt like a Broadway musical, not a movie based on a Broadway musical. The sets, the lighting, none of it really felt like a movie, but like a stage show. You can certainly tell this in "Betrayed" when all the other jail cell's inmates just sort of fade away and they do a lot of Broadway style lighting. Phantom of the Opera felt much more like a movie....inspired by the broadway show.

And this edit sounds really cool. It looks like a lot of work went into it.
Watch DarthEvil's Who Framed Darth Vader? video on YouTube!

Yes, a lot of work went into it — but alas, like I mentioned earlier, I worked from an XviD source thinking that all I wanted to do was prove to myself that it could be done, and that no one else would ever take a serious interest in such an edit (that's before I discovered that there was a whole community devoted to fan edits). As I've said earlier, I do plan to redo this project with the original DVD source, to get the highest quality possible and also fix the things I didn't like about my first version — but I really have no time now, so that will have to wait.

There were some things in the movie that I liked more than the stage version, though — Christine's transformation in "Think of Me", for example, with the camera whirling around her and the jewels appearing in her hair, was done perfectly. That same moment in the stage version (at least in the Broadway production, which is the only one I've seen) was really weak and anti-climactic, IMHO.

I was considering trying to do this sort of thing with the 1999 Donny Osmond "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" DVD. I wanted to use the original cast, but then found out that they never made the recording. The closest one is the 1973 soundtrack release, and that made me want to do it even more, just because I'll be rolling around on the floor. Why, you ask? In the 1973 recording, the narrator is male, while in every subsequent release (including the film), the narrator is female. If I ever get around to doing it (unlikely), I'm thinking of calling it "The Transvestite Narrator Redub" or something similar.

I would also like to try my hand at redubbing PotO with the original cast, but doing a few things different than wmgan (certainly no offense intended). I'd just like to give into my little idiosyncrasies as far as matching the film to the music. Since doing so would make the plot somewhat opaque, I don't intend to make it like a movie unto itself, but like a series of music videos, complete with those annoying credits that pop up in the corner at the beginning (optional, of course). This will also result in some funny gender bending moments, although not on anywhere near the scale of the first project I mentioned. The most notable moment will be when the Phantom starts reciting line from the second Notes sequence at the end of the Why So Silent scene. Since the lines were in a note read by Madame Giry in the play, the Phantom will be speaking with her voice for a moment or two before Michael Crawford's voice fades in. I'm positive I will due this at some point, but when? No idea.

That would be hilarious! You'll notice that I "cheated" at that point, "synching" his mouth movements to completely different words.

I haven't given up on redoing this -- I just haven't had time to. Hope I'll be able to get around to doing it soon.
