When I bought the GameCube, it came with 2 controllers and Mario Kart Double Dash. Most of the games we've bought since have been for the kids. I never really have time to play, but I do have a handful of games of my own (Soul Calibur II, Metroid Prime I & II, Rebel Strike, Scorpion King and Donkey Konga 2). My wife actually plays more often than I do (she's addicted to Zelda and Animal Crossing).

To be honest, I don't really have all that many games for my GC, although the ones that I have I really like. Super Mario Sunshine came with it. And I also own Wind Waker, Mega Man (or Rockman, to be more accurate) Anniversary Collection, and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. I've always wanted SSBM and Double Dash, but, for some reason, I've never actually done it. Now that I have a job, maybe I can put them on my wish list!

Double Dash is worth it. Don't have SSBM, but have heard nothing but good about it.

I was always very good at the first SSB, but when I've played Melee I've had nothing but trouble adjusting to the changes. I'd like to be able to, though.

I'd have to say I think that Melee improved on the original SSB in every conceivable way. Tons of new characters, two new single-player modes, tons of multiplayer modes, arcade minigames, vastly superior graphics, the list is endless. I think it's safe to say that Melee has earned its way to classic status.

I don't know where you live that they are taking pre-orders, but I just went to Toys"R"Us today, 6/14/06, and asked people there that I know if they are taking pre-orders. They told me no and they don't know when they will because they still don't have a release date and they don't know the number of units they are going to get. I live in NJ, but I doubt that another Toys"R"Us would be pre-ordering the system. I would presume they would all do the pre-ordering around the same time. The person I know also told me that he hasn't heard of any store pre-ordering the Wii yet.

This is the first console I've EVER pre-ordered (though I did get my Dreamcast before launch).

I've been stocking up for launch: Super Mario Sunshine, Zelda: Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, and a wireless Wavebird controller. Should augment my Wii experience during the first few months (I don't have a GameCube so I will be taking full advantage of its backwards compatibility...).

Most of the launch titles look great anyway. If either Zelda, Metroid, or Super Monkey Ball are among my free game selection, I'll choose them (of course, the choice of all three is gonna screw me up big-time!).

I'm with you, YIYF. The last time I really wanted a console from the get-go was the Super Nintendo. I never bought a Playstation, it was given to me about a year after the PS2 came out. Then I traded in the PS1 for a PS2 about two and a half years into the console's life. And I got a GC for Valentine's Day in 2005. Or maybe it was our anniversary the year before that.

The Wii on the other hand... YES!

It was clearly a work of genius behind Nintendo, and a blind gamble. This could have been another Virtual Boy, although I don't think they'll make the same mistakes. I've never seen so much hype and antecipation for a console since the Super Famicon - Super NES. On the other hand, Sony went through a whole different path, sort of a brute force path, different from Nintendo that focused on criativity and fun. The price, the controller issue, the lack of good games, the GTA franchise being more XBOX oriented than PS oriented, the blu-ray support which is slowly becoming a Betamax... I doubt we'll ever see a PS4, but I wonder what Nintendo will do to top itself after Wii...

What I hope they do after Wii is.... Nothing for a while. I hate when a company releases a console and then a short time later they bring out a new one. I remember the good ol' days when you either had a NES or a Master System. And that was it for years. Then you either had a Super NES or a megadrive. After that it just got silly with all these differnet companies bringing out different systems every year or so. It took ordinary people like me right out of the gaming loop. I hope Nintendo release the Wii and then nurture it for years, bringing out new and better GAMES, not systems. Remember when they created the FX chip. It boosted teh NES up a whole nother level without the need to buy any new hardware - great stuff. And look at Donkey Kong country. Bloody amazing for a 16 bit machine.

In case you were wondering, yes I am a NES/SNES fan.

Miyamoto said that after the wii, they'll probably release it again in about 3-5 years. Except with more power and HD capable and dvd capable. So, essentially a Wii 2. Remember, they may have changed gameplay, but they're still sitting around the xbox in terms of hardware, so they still have a lot of room to play with.

Yoda, the way it's always been was every 5 years about a new system would come out, that even happened with NES to SNES. The problem is the more companies there are that makes systems, the more choices and in a way, the quicker they get released. What I mean by that last part is that one of the companies is always gonna try and get their system out earlier.

As to what Skipper said, you are mostly right, but got one thing wrong. I'm not exactly clear on this because I've heard two different things, but the Wii will definitely be able to play DVDs. The part I'm not clear on is I've read that you are gonna need a small add-on attachment and I've also heard that it will be able to play DVDs right out of the box. I'm pretty sure I heard the former from Nintendo but can't remember. The rest of what you said those is all correct. Miyamoto said that the next Nintendo console after Wii will have HD graphics, because by then a lot more people will have the HDTVs. Of course, I think Nintendo might have something up their sleeve so it's not just an upgraded Wii. I think they might try and come up with another innovation, if they can make it affordable for the users. If not, I agree with what you said.

All I knw though, is that I can't wait until the Wii is released.

That's not entirely true. The NES (Famicom) was actually out for nearly a decade before it was replaced. It first came out in 1982, and its successor came out in 1991.
