Well Derby and Coventry City aren't exactly big-time, but yeah, there were exceptions. A large chunk of the team had never played professional football before that tournament though. One of the ESPN commentators (don't remember his name right now) was on the '94 team, and he said as much.

And when people talk about games in the 1950s (ESPN even gives stats from the 30s!) I just laugh. If a team was good (or bad) 50 or 70 years ago, it doesn't really mean squat today. Unless we're talking about brazil, who are consistently brilliant.
