In other words, get the pan & scan version.
I'm actually considering this idea... not for the same reasons Knightmessenger posted (as I don't think my buying the fullscreen version of the film will register any kind of message to Lucasfilm at all), but for the simple reason that I'd rather not have two of the exact same things. I already own the 2004 version of the films on DVD in widescreen, so why not get something that's at least *slightly* different? At the very least I would have the pan & scan versions for curiosity value. Some of our forum members have even worked to preserve previous pan & scan editions of the trilogy just for posterity.

It's worth a thought. I haven't decided for sure yet which way I will go, but I'm glad the idea was brought up.
