"Instead of Indy telling Belloq, "Son of a bitch," the word "bitch" is gone"

Interesting. I was under the impression that "bitch" was never said at all. Is it on the DVDs? I'll have to check that.

Have scenes actually been cut for time, or are there just abrupt jumps where commercial breaks weren't cleanly edited out? Because if the scenes are intact, you should be able to clean up the commercial cuts and sync up the DVD audio tracks with the HD video. It would be a shame if scenes have been edited down for commercials...

Won't know exactly until the download is completely done. It's at 81% now after a few days....I will definately report in on it though, once it's done.

I have an HD-version of "Raiders" for quite a while now, but first of all it's 1080p instead of 1080i, and it's not cut for swear-words... it's still "I'm you god damn partner"... plus the little errors, like the cobra's reflection in the sheet of glass, are gone, so I guess this is the HD-source that was used for the DVD-transfers.

I wonder if you could recreate the theatrical cut from the two. I mean it wouldn't require that much editing, just a handful of shots were actually changed.
Some were not blessed with brains.

Way it sounds, Laserschwert's is the theatrical release ... any chance of an SD-DVD downgrade of that transfer?

Sidenote: Were Temple of Doom and Last Crusade altered in any way for the DVDs?

Seeing as it sounds as it's the source for the DVDs, why would an SD-DVD downgrade be any different from the actual DVD?

Temple Of Doom had all the bad matte lines removed from the waterfall scene and footage re-graded to match the background. A welcome improvement IMO as those shots stood out a mile as being fake.

As Jobel stated this would be redundant... the DVD box-set contains the best DVD-version you can get of THAT version of the movie...

To be honest with all of you, the version I downloaded looks really, really nice, but that's about it.

There are some really annoying cuts that conformed to the TV version. Here's what is bad about it:

Removal of frames from Hovito chase scene - no native ass!
Horrid cuts to commercials "boxes" some shots, particularly the establishing shot of the Raven's Nest bar.
Offensive words changed, interestingly though, upon the Nazi's arrival on the Bantu Wind, Indy originally says "Holy shit." In this version he says "Oh my God," unlike the mid 80's TV version where he said "Holy smokes."
Dirt and scratches visible on the transfer - mind you, I like this but I know most of you won't.

Here's what is good about it:

If someone were to take the time and effort, this could easily become the best looking version of Raiders.
None of the violence is cut, unlike the native ass, which is weird.
The commercial cuts last only a few frames on either side of the cut, simply put - it is salvageable if one were to cut in frames from a similar source at the correct resolution.
As I said before, this aired in 2002 so none of the digital clean-ups are present.

Wonder if anyone would be willing to take this on...?

I'd really love to know what differences there are between the DVD version and the "theatrical" version. I've seen Raiders probably hundreds of times and never noticed any differences on the DVD that would require this type of fanaticism.

Please respect the opinion of those that would like a version of Raiders that hasn't been retouched by ILM and Lowry, as I would never dream of asking you to like it.

                  Thanks for understanding.

                  It was a serious question.

I'd like for you to answer it. If you can make such a ruckus about these supposed changes, you can surely list them here.

                  uhhh....again.

I have ZERO idea what alterations were made so I'm not sure where your nasty attitude is coming from.

I could care less what you do or which projects you make. I'm just curious what you're talking about.

If you have trouble answering that, then I can't help you.

They removed some technical bloopers such as the cobra's reflection in the safety glass and the metal track that the giant boulder rolls along.

I was aware of the Cobra reflection but I had never seen the metal track before.

                  Were there any other changes?

Thank you, btw, for answering the question I posed honestly. Apparently even mods have it out for me here.

I GOT TO SEE RAIDERS ON THE BIG SCREEN (MOVIE THEATER) A FEW WEEKS AGO, AND I CAN CONFIRM THAT INDY DOES INDEED SAY, "SON OF A BITCH."

First off, here's the olive branch DFNYC. I was too harsh on you, so let's just leave it at that.

I'm not sure exactly what I have in these 4 discs of the 1080 'Raiders...'

I'm willing to come clean on something - I spent the better part of 3 hours analyzing footage looking for the following, which were "corrected" for the DVD release:

                  -The cobra reflection.
                  -The boulder guide track.
                  -Matte line removal.

I couldn't find a huge difference in the screenshots I took. The colour is a little less red in the HD version - I know that these have to be different than the DVD because the dirt and emulsion scratches are still present, which aren't as bad on the DVD.

So, at the end of the day, what do I have on my hard drive? A nice looking copy of 'Raiders' with the swearing cut for TV? I sure would like someone with a better eye for details than me to look at this thing...

I was really excited to have a kick ass version of the film without the digital alterations made, which apparently only matters to me, so I'll shut up about it now...

Dude...it's not a problem. I just couldn't understand why you blew up at me like that. If you'd like to discuss it further, please PM. I don't want anyone hating me THAT much.

It was an honest question. I really wasn't aware of anything significant being changed.

And for some stupid reason I remembered you as coming down really hard on Indy3 in another Indy thread, so I re-read it and it wasn't that bad, in all cases your comments were justified. That's what I get for having a shit memory.

I honestly thought that you and I had discussed the 3 minor changes made to 'Raiders' in another thread and you had basically said that it didn't matter and there was no purpose in even caring about a version that didn't have it.

How the hell could I want to fight with someone who likes Indiana Jones as much as I do? Anyway, no hard feelings I hope.
