ROTS: Is there a single one?

(Edited)

Does anyone have any clue at all if there are even a small handful of shots in ROTS that aren’t special effects shots?

I challenge someone to find even ONE shot that does not contain some type of special effect, namely CGI. Just brainstorming, I can’t name one.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

ummm......ummmm...... ..... .... ... .. .

nope.

EDIT: Maybe a closeup shot of Palpatine or Mace Windu while they are fighting and you can't see there lightsabers....there's gotta be one. Or when he flies backwards and awkwardly falls over his chair. Not confirmed obviously.....

The ending credits?

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

If the ending credits aren't CGI, what are they? Seriously ... how'd they shoot credit scrolls before CGI?

Maybe at the very end when Beru and Owen are standing over their farm pit looking at the sun set.

fake edit: I really hate that scene. It's an over use of a poinent scene from the original movie, and it makes no goddamn sense why Owen is standing all triumpantly at the sunset waiting for Beru to bring him his nephew as if it were the drink he ordered. I mean, there is no harm in the two of them being out there looking at the sunset with their new baby, but do then need to be standing so precariously close the ledge? Plus the music cuts to the credits too fast. The original music that they were using tones down to a more subtle cord, but when used for the ending music it sounds choppy and goes from a smooth sound to DUUN DUUUN DUN DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUN DUN!!!!

Bottem line. I could have directed that scene better.

I'm pretty sure....Actually 100% sure, that the binary sun is an effecst shot.

And I could have directed it better too.

I wish I could get a job as the guy who reads a script or watches a rough cut of a movie and says 'change this, change this, add this, cut this, ok now it's a good movie'.

War does not make one great.

IIRC, they aren't even on location in Tunisia for that shot. It's another bluescreen set. There were photos circulating a long time back showing Obi Wan giving a bundle to Owen on location during production of Episode II, (only not shot at sunset) but for some reason they didn't use that footage.

EDIT: Twister beat me to it. Good find!

Oohh, close-ups of Obi-Wan climbing! We may have a non-effect shot spotted!

What about shots on the Taintive IV that don't contain Yoda? Are there CG effects even there?

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

I'm beginning to think that George Lucas does not actually "care" about much of anything anymore. Sure he has his ideas and what he values, but he's too old and too rich to care otherwise. Maybe.

Maybe, thats why I loved that part cuz there was actually something real.

Unless you were being sarcastic, the fall over the chair by palpatine is not CGI. The set was built and the movements look far to realistic to have been CGI. It obviously wasn't Ian doing it, but certainly a stuntman on a real set.

Yeah, I knew that Owen was given Luke originally but Lucas wanted a female to be handed the baby. I don't know why, it makes no difference to me, but the way it was shot it seems so out of place. You'd think that Owen would at least be right there near his wife to help accept the baby. Maybe since his hands were free he could shake Obi-Wan's hand maybe? I donno. What I do know is that it looks as though Owen could care less about Luke. Like he was watching Obi-Wan from a distance slowly ride up on that camel thing and just stand there and wait for his wife to show him what Obi-Wan had hidden in his robe.

I'm pretty sure Mr Tuxedo could have directed that scene better.

See that board behind him? That was the storyboard for his last project, which was quite good.

I think it's becuase, it's almost like the characters are saying this.

Obiwan: Hi, you don't know me but, I'm going to give you a child.
Beru: Okay, what's your name?
Obiwan: Uh, ... ben.
Beru: Okay, I'll go tell my husband.
Obiwan: You do that.

Beru goes to Owen.

Beru: Hey, we got a child now!
Owen: Yay, now we don't have to go through adoption!
Beru: Let's burn our eyesight by looking into the two suns.
Owen: Okay sounds good.

Obiwan goes away on the camel thing.

Owen: Beru, where'd you get that kid anyway?
Beru: That guy named Ben over there.
Owen: Oh, that guy going away on that animal?
Beru: Yeah.
Owen: Okay, let's look into the suns somemore.
Beru: Okay.

That's what I was thinking when I first saw that scene.

There could be a wire removal though. I don't know it's kind of hard to fall in a chair that way under your own willpower... Especially with a table in the way...

Nope. That would be CGI too. Unless they filmed a dark room with no windows for that.

I'm 100% serious when I say I would have preferred Mr. Tuxedo's handling of ROTS to that of George Lucas.

I agree, not only would it have without a doubt have been a better film, there is just a certian novelty to watching a sci-fi film that was written by a cat.

Maybe you could just have him work on it as a fan edit. He could call it 'Episode III: the Meow Mix'

I think the shot of ObiWan falling into that lake/pool of water after he gets blasted off that ridge while riding that whooping beast may be free of CG elements. I'd have to look again to be sure, but it's possible.

Wow, I had no idea that the Tatooine scene was reshot. So that's two claims about that movie that he made on Episode II that ended up not happening. That and the whole Jedi Archives/Sifo-Dyas plotline.
