Many people have suggested different ways of rendering the special edition discs unusable, throwing them away or sending them back to Lucas. For those of us in Region 1 who really want the official dvd of the originals but don't feel eager to "give in", I have an idea. Why not buy the release that already has the se disc made even worse. In other words, get the pan & scan version.

Think about it. The original version will be widescreen either way. I think it's more appropriate and fitting to get the special edition chopped in half because that's basically what Lucas did to the film in '97 & '04. Most if not all of the people who want the original films in their unaltered form never would buy full screen of any widescreen movie. I think it will leave much less doubt than what little there was that anyone who buys the new set wants the originals. See the butchered film the way it was meant to be seen, in its butchered form. Hayden won't be appear on the screen as long. Plus, it will look even worse on a widescreen tv, even more ridiculous than the non anamorphic dvds.
