If you think the Special Edition software is outdated, then you'll never be happy, no matter how many versions of Spec. Ed. come out. Technology advances each year. If Lucas was to put out a new spec. ed. each year, it would keep becoming outdated. That's why the original trilogy was so great. It just can't be outdated, because it was real.
