The Most Boring Commentator Ever — Page 3

I know! John Williams is amazing. You can hear that it is the Emperor's theme, but it's mixed with the passion of Luke's theme and grows more and more...what is the word I'm looking for?
It's like almost as if you were there witnessing the battle it would be as if you were standing below in some valley and you look up at these two black figures fighting above on the hill. Your neck is craned up and your jaw open, and as you witness this father and son pair swinging to kill each other, your eyes well up with tears.

I don't think that there is a word for that.
"I am altering the movies. Pray I don't alter them any further." -Darth Lucas

The worse commenatry track ever recorded is for "Wild Wild West", by Mr. Barry Sonnenfeld. He kept babling of how he shouldn't have directed the way he did, and stuttered while trying to explain too fast all the visual effects on some shots.

And, ironically, one of the best is also Barry Sonnenfeld's, along with Tommy Lee Jones, for MIB - they had the silluette of both actors over the film by using the subtitles to form the image, that was interesting.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I can't listen to too many commentary tracks. It's too much of a time obligation. I wish I did have the time for good ones, or funny ones tho. I liked one that was put together for the Star Wars classic DVDs. On Star Wars someone's talking about seeing Star Wars for the first time with all the Lucas employees, and that after they'ed seen it, it was an amazing feeling, because it was really good, and no one had realized that was the movie they had all worked on. It wasn't recognizable until the first viewing. Makes me want to go watch Star Wars with that in mind.

The first commentaries I really enjoyed were for The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. The guys were quite humourous and pointed out a lot of their mistakes. Been way too long since I've listened to it, so I can't remember if they were actually informative or not! I'll have to watch them again this week and find out.

Ooh, a laserdisc. The Cheat's playin' something on a laserdisc.
Everything is better on a laserdisc. Whatever happened to the laserdisc? Laserdisc!

I don't listen to a lot of commentaries, and have never listened to one on the Star Wars DVD's. I only watch commentaries when there seems to be some humor value in it, or if its something that really reveals a lot about the subject. I watch all the commentaries on the Simpsons DVD's. Those guys are funny, and they have a lot to say without whining about limited resources.

The only other commentary I ever watched was, and I highly reccomend this if you are a fan of the books, is the commentary on the Series of Unfortunate Events DVD between the real Lemony Snicket and the director. It is so funny, and was much better than the actual movie, which was a let down. Even if you didn't like the movie, the commentary is simply hilarious.
Watch DarthEvil's Who Framed Darth Vader? video on YouTube!

You can also access the entire Horriffic Violence Theater Series from my Channel Page.

I kind of like Lemony Snicket's A series of Unfortunate Events. It was a cute but flawed movie. I'm interested in hearing this commentary though.

I just thought of those ones while reading down the page and bam...someone mentions them.

Hey look, a bear!

I thought the Simpson commentaries were worthless. They rambled, talked about about things amongst themselves without explaining it to us, laughed at their own jokes and never really revealed anything interesting. I listened to the commentary for the season 4 monorail episode, I hoped they would explain where they got the idea and why they wanted to parody public transportation. Matt Stone and Trey Parker said so much more in half the time (South Park commentaries don't run full episode length) and revealed a lot of great information.

Anyone ever hear a Tim Burton commentary? Nothing but non-stop stuttering and stammering...but I like his movies.

Conan explained where he got the monorail idea in the commentary. I think their commentaries are just as entertaining and insightful as the show itself. Take that whatever way you want, of course.

You *do* realize that there is an easter egg commentary with Conan O'Brien doing commentary on that episode, right?

Yeah, that and 'Homer Badman' (the one where Homer is accused of sexual harrassment) are my favourite all time episodes.

War does not make one great.

I actually like Burton's commentaries, they're insightful in a psycological sort of way.
"Who's scruffy-lookin'?" - Han Solo
"I wish my lawn was emo so it would cut itself." -sybeman
"You know, putting animals in the microwave is not a good idea. I had to learn that one the hard way." -seanwookie

How do you get the Conan O'Brien commentary? I never knew that. The monorail episode is one of the best, it has a tight storyline and consistantly great jokes.

The easiest way is to hit the "audio" button on your remote. Otherwise there is some trick on the menu going to the episode, but like I said, try the audio button first.

As far as the "ego-value" goes, Lucas is by far the worst for commentary. But as far as sheer boredom, the commentary for "The Fly 2" is really reallly reallllly bad. The director (Chris Walas) maintains the single most uninteresting conversation with "film historian" Bob Burns for well over an hour. Imagine two old guys trying to figure out where they met for the first time, only this time you have to watch the Fly 2.

P.S.
I'm glad to finally be on the forums........
For some reason, the "Hey, That's My Dinner" line has ALWAYS bothered me.
