Dudes, seriously. I popped in my Episode III DVD today (temporary brain anuarism) and pretty much chapter searched until I said, "Oh yeah. This scene...lets see...yup. That sucked. Dear god! The dialogue! So...horrible...brain hurting... Hayden...can't...act... *dies*

Heh, I had the exact same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. Thought I'd at least enjoy the good scenes by jumping to them. There really weren't any.

Sure the space fight at the beginning was fun, but only the first time since video games can give me almsot the same gratuitously sensational visuals yet with more interaction. And yes, the fight scenes at the end are nice, but I was pissed by the time I got that far and couldn't enjoy them either.

I guess it'd be going too far that if I someday have kids that at their birthday party instead of playing pin the tail on the donkey to play pin Lucas' head on his bulbous neck. Yeah, that's just going too far.

Lastly, I know they're tech films, but way too much green and blue screen shooting. You have to give these poor folks something to work with that allows them to believe that they're a part of this world. You can't just show them a sketch and say, "this is what it'll look like".

I rag on the actors a wee bit, but I don't hold anything against them personally. I just hate to watch them because it pains me to think about how BITCHIN' it would have been to have them really act.

And speaking of green screen, I remember seeing a picture of Hayden and Portman on some green screen machanical bull (for Episode II) with nothing but green behind them and as far as the eye could see. I thought to myself "What the hell? Those two warm bodies up there are the only organic thing in that shot." And I was right. In the film it's all Pixar up there.

You ever take the time and compare the acting of the actors between the real sets and the green screen stuff. It's not like totally obvious, but its there. They act just a wee bit better on location.

Good point. The PT would have been so much better if the dialouge had been listenable.

You have to give these poor folks something to work with that allows them to believe that they're a part of this world. You can't just show them a sketch and say, "this is what it'll look like". All day in a green or blue room is one thing, monotonously boring, no matter how good the actors. Once they lose interest in what they're doing, or can't "feel it", that can't be fixed in post. You can't CG performances George. You have to get those the first time around. And if you don't know how to get them, then you hire someone who does.

You hit the nail on the head there. That's what I keep saying to myself. The OT was great because the actors had stuff to work with. No green screens. They were on real sets. That cockpit in the millenium falcon? They were there. That bar in Mos-Eisly? Yep, they were actually there. You can act so much better when you can actually see the things you're supposed to be interacting with.

However, that is no excuse for no one having on screen chemistry with Jar-Jar....

Speaking of Van Halen earlier in the thread, did anyone see David Lee Roth on Jay Leno a couple nights ago? He looked like a bad used car salesman (with a bad toupee)!!

Dave is promoting "Strummin' With The Devil." It's a bluegrass tribute album to Van Halen. (No Van Hagar.) Dave was asked to sing on two songs on the album. (Jump and Jamie's Cryin') Dave's short hair was part of a makeover that was done when he did some photoshoots for Tommy Hilfiger. In my opinion it looked a lot better than his bleach blond long hair that didn't suit him. His performance with the band, to me, showed a very mature DLR. The music is bluegrass, so Dave was dressed appropriately (yellow plaid shirt, blue jeans). The main thing that got me about the performance is that the album (and music) was about the musicians, and Dave featured them prominently. When you looked at Dave, he was *itching* to do bust a move. He was bouncing in place thinking, "Would just one roundhouse hurt?" (Yes, he can still jump off the drum riser.) But again, it wasn't about Dave, he remembered that, and he didn't do it. Another point, did you notice that he went OFF CAMERA when the solos started playing? Dave always gives props, always had.

Dave's a class act. We're just waiting for EVH to wake up and take notice.

BTW, Dave's on Craig Ferguson tonight. (Friday the 8th.)

I think you mean Thurs the 8th.

Anyway, I was on Jay Leno's website hoping to find a clip of Diamond Dave. Instead I found this. (John Fogerty doing VH)

Notice he is playing an EVH guitar. And, he tries to do some Eddie-ish playing at the begining, but isn't very good at it!

I will never stop being a Star Wars fan. I can directly trace some of the most profound decisions in my life to the influence of Star Wars. I was five in 1977 and Star Wars had strong themes about honor and standing up for what is right, which influenced my thinking. I began to see that there were real people in this world (Fire Fighters, Police, Soldiers, Missionaries, et al) that put their life on the line for a higher cause. I began watching the old documentary series “The World at War” on PBS and seeing the professionalism and sacrifices of the Veterans of World War II made me decide that I wanted to pursue a Military Career. I left the US Army in 2000 after a six-year career as a Military Intelligence (please no oxymoron jokes) Interceptor/Analyst/Supervisor. I don’t know if I would have ever had that career without the influence of Star Wars.

George owns the intellectual rights to Star Wars and he’s free to change the story as much as he likes. Now that I will be able to get a legitimate copy of the OOT on DVD I don’t care what he changes because I can always see the films as I first remember them.

I am quite cognizant of the fact that George lost something along the way. Once he was known as a great story-teller and now he’s known as a special effects guru. His recent efforts, be they changes to the OT or the presentation of the PT, confirm that George is now more interested in SE than story-telling. It is sad and it’s something that has been coming for a long time.

It sucks that George is now more focused on SE than writing a great story, but just because he’s lost it doesn’t mean everyone has. There is still good Star Wars product to be found. Some of the Novels are good and the Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) games are probably the best RPGs I’ve ever played. It is my personal opinion that the story of the first KOTOR game is better than the story of the entire PT. I will grant that a Video Game is a much broader canvas than a trilogy films. But it should be pointed out that George had a much larger budget for the PT than Bioware had for KOTOR.

The point to my entire rant is this; yes it sucks big green donkey dicks that George has lost some of his magic, but he’s not the only magician in the Galaxy Far Far Away.

Sounds great. Shame Eddie's not involved. EVH playing acoustic bluegrass would be something to see.

A friend of mine in L.A. is a doorman at a strip joint, and he's friends with DLR - Dave was...erm...visiting the strip club while this guy was working, and they hit it off. I haven't met him but I hope to.
