Directing a movie is fairly intuitive. Theres lots of books written about the subject but really directors just make up their technique as they go. Seeing as you wont be dealing with a real crew nor real actors i doubt any of the so-called "professional technique" would be of any use to you.

My advice: plan things. Make sure you know what kind of tone and quality you want the product to have, plan things so that people show up on time and you know what shots you have to get. And think realistically--you are not going to get crane shots of 500 extras. Other than that, everything else is your own creativity and talent. Good luck!
