I don't know much about audio restoration, but I do know that the finished audio will have all the gaps patched, be richer in high frequency content, and most likely have some additional equalization and other processing applied just to get it to sound "right".Holy crap was it scratchy though . . . if that can be restored to a good sound I'll be very impressed, and eager to hear it.
The guy doing the restoration knows his stuff. He used to do subcontract work for THX.
