1) The so-called "anamorphic" fan DVD sets are not true anamorphic transfers, they are scaled up from the letterboxed LD source. These "fanamorphic" transfers can look better on a 16:9 TV than a letterbox transfer, as the scaling is better than your TV could manage in real time (see Moth3r's set for a good example of this).

2) Lucasfilm's version will not be from the same source, as it will be from the digital tape master used to make the analogue Laserdiscs, and therefore should look considerably better than any DVD sourced from an LD.
