From IMDB:

Sri Lanka First Country To Ban 'Da Vinci Code'

Sri Lanka is the latest country to cross swords with Sony Films over The Da Vinci Code. According to the state-run Colombo Daily News, President Mahinda Rajapakse has banned the film following an appeal by the Catholic Bishops Conference. While calls for the film to be banned in such Asian countries as the Philippines, Thailand and India have arisen in recent weeks, Sri Lanka appears to be the first to issue an order halting the screening of the film. The bishops had charged that The Da Vinci Code was the product of a "totally perverted mind and ... adversely affects the most sacred beliefs of our people."

Um, yeah... I'm just gonna, um, walk away now, okay? ^_~

There is no lingerie in space…

C3PX said: Gaffer is like that hot girl in high school that you think you have a chance with even though she is way out of your league because she is sweet and not a stuck up bitch who pretends you don’t exist… then one day you spot her making out with some skinny twerp, only on second glance you realize it is the goth girl who always sits in the back of class; at that moment it dawns on you why she is never seen hanging off the arm of any of the jocks… and you realize, damn, she really is unobtainable after all. Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Tom Hanks had a great line in the film that wasn't in the book. Something to the effect of "How does any of this change the Divinity of Jesus?"

Bingo. Hit the nail on the head right there. I know of no way that this story undercuts Jesus the Man, Jesus the Son of God, Jesus the Prophet, or Jesus the Rabbi. It does not claim anything about the man was false. Its greatest heresy is proclaiming the Catholic Church knew things about Jesus that it kept from the masses.

As if they haven't done that anyway.

I heartily recommend two comedies for you all in the vein of The Da Vinci Code: Dogma and Hudson Hawk. Go watch these two movies and tell me Dan Brown didn't take more from these films than he did from Baigent & Leigh's research. At least they got cited.

I just saw the movie, and I have also read the book.

The book was awesome, loved every page of it. The movie was, in my own opinion, poorly directed and had poor acting from both the parts of Sophie Neveu and Robert Langdon. The funny thing about it was that everyone else; Teabing, Remy, Silas, Aringarosa, etc. all did exceptionally well in terms of acting. I also felt that some parts were a bit.....awkward to watch.

Oh well, I was really excited about it but was thoroughly dissapointed after seeing it.

LOS ANGELES (AP)-Despite lukewarm reviews and controversial content, the Tom Hanks religious thriller The Da Vinci Code reaped treasure at the box office this weekend, selling $232 million US worth of tickets worldwide, including $77 million domestically.

The film, from Sony Pictures, had the best opening weekend of the year so far and became the second-largest worldwide release after last year's Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.

Getting labeled Heretical by the Vatican was the best thing they could have done for promoting the film. The Vatican continues to adhere to tactics from the Dark Ages, rather than recognizing how the world has changed. 1000 years ago, if the papacy called it heresy, you avoided it for fear of damnation. Now, it's like a double-dog dare from the 80-year-old virgin (who wears a big hat).

LOL!!!

What you say about condemnation from the church being a selling point is spot on. Dumbasses. It also adds weight to the arguments put forth by the film (the church is manipulative and controlling and fond of censorship).

Nice, Nanner, but i didn't say Jesus hunted vampires. I said he was one. Think about it, what do they drink at communion? Wine? Heck, no. It's blood. It's His blood of the new convenent. Vampires are afraid of crosses. Why? Bad memories, that's why. Dracula rose from the grave. Jesus rose from the grave.

It all makes perfect sense.

Yeah, the Catholic Church's response to this movie is ridiculous. If it wasn't for their backlash, the results of this movie could only have been positive for them. If anything, it has inspired a dialogue about Jesus Christ amongst world communities.
MTFBWY. Always.
