Try to take it easy with the Lucas bashing.

I know a lot of you are frustrated. I am too, though I've grown less and less attached to Star Wars as Lucas continues to disregard his fans more and more.

I have no problem with valid criticisms of George Lucas. You can even call the guy an asshole on occasion if it makes you feel better about the whole thing. However, praying for his death is going a bit too far.

Occasional venting is totally fine, but let's try to keep our comments constructive from now on.

Thanks.

Well, one of them.

I make these films for myself more than I make them for anybody else…I don't really make my films for an audience ~George Lucas

Thanks, Jay. I totally agree with you.

i do apologize for any of my comments about his death, but i think many of you have said things in the moment of sheer frustration.
so im sorry for resorting to it.

but don't apologize to those who were offended by it, especially those who call people out for making mistakes and then call them morbid a-holes for doing so. Your not perfect so shut the hell up.

Not sure who you're referring to Luke. But anyway, I'd like to see us not bashing Lucas or each other too much. It sets a bad example for the sudden influx of new members.

I don't wish him death. I wish him enlightenment. I'm looking forward to actually buying this piss-poor DVD, knowing (a) my 4:3 TV will display it just fine and that (b) it will give me the legal excuse to have the X0 project, seeing as how they're both derived from the same master. The official one should be fine until X0 gets into my hands.

Meanwhile, I hope GL continues to entertain me with his 3D editions, his Archival Editions, and I especially look forward to when he officially releases the ADM editions as his official vision.
I am fluent in over six million forms of procrastination.

While we're on the subject of pointing out things people might try not to do, how about not being so trigger-happy on the creation of new threads? I've seen about 20 threads pop up in a matter of days that are all talking about the same thing (namely the non-anamorphic affair). Most of the posts contained in these threads could easily fit in an existing thread. I'm not trying to be a moany old rule-maker, but I felt someone should say it. There were also 2 threads created today to mark the 29th anniversary of Star Wars - Check before you make a thread.

War does not make one great.

I agree with YIYF on the thread thing. I actually did start one yesterday, but only because I felt that it didn't fit in with the other threads. I can't remember the last time I started a thread before that.

I refuse to Lucas bash. This mostly about bad corporate decision making and bad advice. GL is still a human being and is still entitled to his opinion.

Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

While I agree that it's easy to go overboard attacking Lucas directly, he did bring most of it on himself. The entire premise of all his changes is that it's "his" vision and what he says goes, and he's famously controlling of his corporations and legal rights. The irony of his almost pathological desire to keep cranking up his films to the highest current computer effects level (including THX118, which is commenting on the terrors of a dehumanized machine world run amok!) juxtaposed with his OT DVD anamorphic snafu is rather impressive.

Frankly, giving him a complete pass everytime something like this happens just contributes to his feeling that he can just do whatever and nobody will call him on it. It reminds me of the hipster Flanderisisis trying to manage their out-of-control kid on the Simpsons: "We've tried nothing, and we're all out of ideas."
I'm cold, and there are wolves after me.

Yeah, it's almost impossibly to keep up with all these new threads. I'm glad tht all this new news has gotten everyone into the posting spirit, but let's show a little restraint, please.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I agree, and I don't hate the man personally, or wish him death or anything. I actually respect the guy for being a family man in Hollywood, where most of the actors love the fame and are usually anything but a family person. I remember seeing Lucas at the AFI tribute last year, and you can see when it comes to his three kids, he is everything but an ego maniac, as he has a true affection for his kids, and sacrificed 10 years of his career after ROTJ to raise them on his own. Plus he adopted two kids, and I respect that alot.

It is only when he thinks of SW, that he becomes a different person, he becomes obsessed by his own ego, and that is what I don't like about him.

Personaly, I have no problem with the guy, but as for SW, lately I can't stand him.

im not pointing out anyone specific at all..
im just saying that we're all human and that sometimes in the heat of the moment we say things which we should otherwise keep to ourselves...

i dont think i have to say that many people we outraged when they heard this...
and i hope i dont sound too full of myself but i believe that it hit me harder than i think it hit anyone else...
not just as a Star Wars fan, but as a film enthusiast and as a DVD collector..

theres only so much a person can put up with before they explode, and im sure we've all had that on occasion.
so again i apologize for what i said, but please don't judge others on things which im sure we're all guilty of...

I just think it's wonderfully ironic (and interesting) to see everyone going, "That's it, I'm through with Star Wars" and "You've just lost another friend", and "My love for Star Wars has ended."

Why did everyone love Star Wars when Lucas repeatedly claimed they would NOT be available on DVD, and now AFTER an announcement that it WILL see the light of day again, everyone's through with SW. It's kinda weird. This is a big step in the right direction, because what Lucas has effectively done is turned the sticking point from not wanting the originals to see the light of day to not wanting to restore them because it'll cost too much money.

We can argue THAT point a lot easier. I mean look, if he releases them on DVD and that doesn't interfere with his "creative vision", why would releasing them in higher quality be any different? The future's looking bright for me; I never thought he'd release the originals in my lifetime, and here he is doing just that- regardless of the quality.

And don't bash Lynn or John Singh either. I read posts at the HTF saying that they're kind of on our side (from Bill Hunt, who has met them both).

Well, i am sorry but because of how he has been treating his films in the last years i have felt my desire to watch them has deminished. Instead of just 'fixing them' he made a whole bunch of new mistakes. Luke screaming as he falls in ESB, Han not shooting first, ect. I don;t care if he adds CGI to improve his movie, heck i even like most of the changes (Death star run in ANH). But when he doesn't fix obvious little things like luke light sabre in ANH, then adding other mistakes like the blocky blue artifacts as the death star blowing up, then there is something wrong with this guy.

I don't wish him dead but we all know were not going get it right OR see the original OT's properly until he passes away and the film is in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing.

Nobody here wants Lucas to actually die over a set of films (I would hope). Yet he is the greatest roadblock to preserving the original trilogy.

Before the announcement, there was a lot of hope we could change his mind. After the announcement, we were elated because we thought we were finally getting what we wanted. With the confirmation that the OOT will be of less than acceptable quality, our spirits have fallen again.

End result: we're more pissed off now than we were before. I don't find it baffling at all.

I think it's a glass half empty/half full thing. It seems to me that before the announcement, most people thought that the OUT would never be officially released again. Okay, so the September set isn't all we'd hoped, but it shows that it's not impossible.

So, the original mission of this site has been acheived, and it could now have a new mission: to campaign for a full restoration of the OUT. Show me the petition that asks for that and I'll sign it. Hey - it worked the first time. And now while the issue is still hot, we could get a lot of signatures.
