For some reason, that reminded me of a funny bit that a comedian named Sean Keane once did. He's standing there adjusting the mic, not saying anything, then blurts out "oh, my girlfriend died!... It's been two weeks, but it's only now that I can laugh about it... I was gonna go to her funeral, but I couldn't find a date... I asked her sister, but apparently she had some family function to attend."

Oooooh! A gay insult hot on the heels of your recent "u cant get a gurlfrend n00b lololol!!!!111eleventy-one" zinger. You, my friend, are truly redefining the bleeding edge of acerbic wit!

Nevertheless, I wouldn't bother getting too comfortable around these parts. Your presence here is obviously one borne merely of a need to incite conflict. You have no interest in preserving the OT, and thus far have done little other then spawn endlessly circular arguments based on a number of willfully ignorant misconceptions. This, coupled with your generally tactless, insulting posts, will surely result in your removal from these boards sooner, rather than later.
For as much as some people claim to hate what Star Wars has become, they sure seem incapable of shutting up about it.

George Lucas obviously doesn't have any problem taking money from people, but I think he ACTUALLY has fooled himself into thinking the SEs are better, plus it's PRIDE. Fuck him. These movies WILL be saved. Just not by him.
I'm not even going to see Indiana Jones 4 at this rate. That is if it ever gets made. And I still have respect for Steven Spielberg. But I WILL NOT support George Lucas.

It's true, the man is an asshole.

But let's not wish him death. Punishment on the other hand is perfectly acceptable.

I wasn't making insults, I was making statements.

He's been on this board posting baseless accusations and assumptions. This is merely a fact. If he takes insult to it, it is no fault of mine.

And I never said he should be removed for disagreeing with anything. I myself disagree with many of the folks here on a number of things. Case in point: I don't hate Lucas and certainly would never stoop to the level of immaturity to wish death upon him.

I simply implied that his caustic attitude would most likely bring him a ban due to his actions, not his opinions.

You're a fucking idiot. Knock it off.

Oh, who am I kidding. This thread is beyond clusterfucked anyway. If half the passion you guys displayed for going after one another was poured into trying to get Lucasfilm's attention, maybe something would get done, but you're so easily distracted by a bargain basement troll and masturbatory dreams of a man DYING for your DVD's...

fuck it. Whatever. Wank on, I guess.

It sounds like you're at the same place I found myself several times over the last year and a half or so.

I'd do all the grass-roots stuff I could to get folks to come here and sign the petition. I tried everything and talked to anyone who would listen in the hopes of getting support for a release.

Then I'd pop in here and see this exact "George Lucas made my favorite movies but I still want him dead of syphilis and rotting in hell" crap in every 3rd post, and I'd just wonder what the hell chance we actually have of seeing results if this was what our representation acted like.

Seriously, I've been DJing a weekly dance show locally for the last 7 consecutive years. If anyone knows anything about the club scene, 7 years for one show is a bit on the long side. Anyway, during this time I've had more than my fair share of folks who would come up to my DJ booth and demand I change the music. It didn't seem to matter that the dance floor was packed and that whatever I was currently doing must be working... they wanted it their way. Normally that would be alright: You want to hear something else then request it, no problem. But these fucks would sometimes berate me with personal insults because I had not precognitively surmised what they had wanted to hear as they walked in the door. To these people, I said "fuck you, learn some damn manners" and then made it a point to gear my playlist to piss them off from that point onward.

That’s the old “you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar” adage at work there, kids. Apply this anecdote as you will.

But really, this is the internet. Anonymous fucktardery is every person’s right as soon as they pay their monthly ISP bill, I suppose.

Yes, the NEGATIVES are too damaged. However, there are lots of high quality 35mm and 70mm copies around (even serperation masters), from which could be made an excellent transfer, which easily exceeds an old VIDEO source.

as for you saying you saw something in empire of dreams, is it not possible that they just redid that one shot for the documentary. i am sure that they didnt have to redo a whole movie or one bloody shot.

Please, don´t just babble around. Inform yourself. There are several shots in the documentary which are clearly from the OOT, and ANAMORPHICALLY:

- the original titles including the pre-EPIV textcrawl
- the original death star explosion
- Han running after the guards, facing a massive backfire
- several effect shots during the death star fight which have been replaced with cgi in the SE

These shots were most probably taken from a good surviving 35mm copy of Star Wars. And even the shots which are the same as the SE are most probably taken from the same source, since they retain the original colours, which have been heavily altered for the 2004 release.

as for how many will sell, ok well this forum is world wide. we got like what 70 000 signatures. i rounded it to 50 000 and assumed that for every one person to sign the petition there were 5 others out there that wanted it and didnt sign. thats pretty resonable right.

as for the cost how much do you think it would be to digitally re-render and re-edit, and clean up 3 two and a half hour movies. thats millions of frames, with thousands of flaws on them to clean and sharpen.

Again, you are getting it wrong. What you talk about is digitally correcting the original films. We just want a straight transfer from a good surviving 35mm print. This just involves loading the scanner with the film reels, scan them, do some basic colour correction and compress the material for DVD. THIS IS STANDARD PROCEDURE FOR EVERY MOVIE RELEASED ON DVD NOWADAYS.

I'd like to thank The Bizzle for trying really hard to be constructive in the face of seemingly overwhelming odds.

In addition, although I'm not sure what planet Iamstillhiro is from, his posts are pretty mild compared to some others who are still around. If there is to be mod intervention in this thread, it should be over the Lucas death fantasies. The whole tone of this site has changed recently, for the worse.

I think the original trilogy should be preserved. But I also accept the new trilogy. And I enjoy the enhanced trilogy too. I really think that Lucas should have had the old version and the new version side by side in the dvd in the first place. It is kinda a rip that I have to buy them all over again. But at least that means I can give the enhanced versions to my little bro cause he appreciates the films as much as I do.

Oya, if you wanna see where the battle begun feel free to scroll back a few pages.

The reasons I don't like these new Special Editions (1997, 2004)

1. The original anamorphic good-quality version of the original three aren't released.

2. The story has been slightly altered. It's been more kiddified.

3. The new dialogue is terrible and wooden... nowhere near the smart fling of the OOT.

4. "How is this possible?" ok... enough said.

5. CGI is VERY poorly excecuted.

6. Most changes are minor and not needed.

other than that, I enjoy watching the mere changes they've done and have no problem with the SE's. Only as long as a good pristine version of the ORIGINAL 1977, 1980, and 1983 versions of STAR WARS are released... If that happens, I'd be excited to see what changes they've done in newer editions.

Not only Star Wars, but I wouldn't mind seeing changes (if that ever happens) for any other movie as long as the original version is available. (in good quality.)

P.S. I also noticed that the Episode I DVD has added footage in the film without even telling us that it's an "extended version"!
What is this for? If I buy a DVD... I'd expect the film to be Exactly like i've seen it in theatres...

Here is my progress so far. First, I called the number listed on our front page. I explained my issue and was told that I should instead call (415) 623-1962. When I called this number and explained my issue, I was directed to publicity@lucasfilm.com. I have not received a response yet.

Everyone who attends this forum needs to call or write in. If you have not done so yet, please do so. If we can get everyone to call or write in, we might be able to make a difference. If you do nothing, you have no right to complain later, here or anywhere else. It's just like voting.

Here is a copy of what I sent if anyone wants a template:

===========================================================================

Dear Lucasfilm,

First off, let me please say that I am very happy with Lucasfilm's choice to release the original, unaltered Star Wars trilogy on DVD. I think it is a decision that has been a long time coming, and I am really pleased to see it.

That being said, I would really like to see three of the highest-grossing, highest-rated films in history be given somewhat better treatment in the formal release planned for September. I completely understand the financial considerations involved in the sort of clean-up and restoration that would be involved in such a product, but I really think a disservice is being done to many loyal fans here, many of whom have purchased countless releases of the films over the years.

If, as has been stated in the form letter recently issued, Lucasfilm has no intention of ever releasing a restored version (beyond what has already been done) of the original trilogy, it is my hope that the company will allow a third-party company to handle any restoration.

In the end, I think many people are interested in any changes that George Lucas has made to the Star Wars movies as well as any changes that he chooses to make to his films in the coming years. I respect his artistic liberty. I just think that people should still be given the choice to choose which version they enjoy the most - i.e. the availability to purchase a different version of the films.

In the best case scenario, there would be a huge original trilogy release, containing the following:
- the original theatrical versions of the films
- the 1997 special editions
- the 2004 special editions
- all audio track variations of each film

In addition to that, it would be really nice for Lucasfilm to add bonus material for the original trilogy in the way that they have for the prequel trilogy. What has been announced for September is the first step, but it is a baby step.

Of particular interest to me is any deleted scene or cut scene material from the original trilogy. These scenes have been scattered across a variety of making-of specials (which are all now out of print) for years; it would be nice to have them consolidated in one source, such as the original trilogy release.

It is my hope that if nothing more is done to the original, unaltered trilogy this September, that at least Lucasfilm will "spice up" this release by adding a bonus disc full of deleted scenes and similar archival material. This is something that fans have been wanting for years but have never received in a good quality form. I think that adding something like this to the set would go a long way towards pleasing fans.

I'll be the first to say that Star Wars fans go too far sometimes, and can be overly obsessive. However, this only proves that they are good purchasers. Why not give them what they want?

For the record, I will be buying the set that has been announced for September, but it is my hope that by the time it reaches store shelves, the original trilogy bonus material will be of a somewhat higher level of quality than has been originally planned.

Thank you for your time.

I don't know. Their responses seem just a little off in some way. I can't put my finger on it, but something seems a little rotten.

Okay, I just read over that thing and I definitely see what you mean by some sort of lurking strangeness. Nothing you can quite put your finger on... but certainly the feeling that some non-Euclidian tentacular monstrosity is about to jump out at you and go BOOGY!! BOOGY!! BOOGY!!
