audio campaign? aka "cut your losses"

Wow...a lot happening here lately!

As I understand it, Jay is suggesting we shift our efforts to the media, and letting them know our concerns over lack of anamorphic transfers. May the force be with us all

As far as contacting LFL directly at this point - in light of their recent response re: plans for the video - does anyone think we might at least be successful in an effort to have one of the alternate audio mixes included? We could suggest both the mono mix and the 70mm mix, or simply focus on the elusive 70mm since the mono mix is already out there (albeit low quality).

I realize of course the audio is not what everyone is concerned about right now. I'm just throwing this suggestion out there in case we still want to try contacting LFL directly about anything, because they haven't "put their foot down" regarding the audio.
Cost isn't a real concern for LFL re: anamorphic transfers as we all know, but since they are hinting at this as an excuse re: the video quality, it would be harder for them to take this angle in regards to providing alternate audio mix(es). Or maybe not

Anyway, just food for thought.

We're definitely interested in the audio, and we used to discuss it a lot. It's just that this anamorphic issue has really taken center stage for right now. But I think you're definitely right.

C3PX said: Gaffer is like that hot girl in high school that you think you have a chance with even though she is way out of your league because she is sweet and not a stuck up bitch who pretends you don’t exist… then one day you spot her making out with some skinny twerp, only on second glance you realize it is the goth girl who always sits in the back of class; at that moment it dawns on you why she is never seen hanging off the arm of any of the jocks… and you realize, damn, she really is unobtainable after all. Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

When I saw this topic, I thought it was about the NPR radio program.

Thank gawd Lucas hasn't touched that. But then, it's hard to see the crappy CGI on the radio.

We're on the verge of a Hi-Def DVD/Bluray age. Is standard anamorphic DVD with it's 30% better res over non anamorphic really worth making a fuss over? Should we just accept what lucas is going to release?

At the end of the day, it's 30% more resolution for an anamorphic transfer. Should we just forget it?

I think the anamorphic issue is definitely a legitimate one, but I don't know if LFL can be swayed on this issue, at least for this release (if one wants to be cynical - but hopeful - maybe they are saving anamorphic for a hi-def release).

re: the alternate audio mixes, the only thing I'm fairly certain about is that without Lucas's cooperation the 70mm multichannel mix is lost, which is too bad. I've been into multichannel sound for a while (before the push for 5.1 anyway) and I would love to hear the early multichannel Star Wars mix as it was originally offered.
