 (Edited)

I’ve just made an extended edition of The Producers (the recent movie musical starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick), reintegrating the deleted scenes from the DVD into the movie. I’m encoding it right now, and will work on menus and cover art soon.

I saw the original film after seeing both the new movie and the musical, and something just seemed amiss without the wonderful songs.

Heh, I was think of doing the same thing. Looking forward to it. Though one scene has a big continuety error. (Her Face Reprise)

What continuity error? If I recall, that scene was in the musical.

Arghh I've been having a hard time trying to get the subtitles to sync up. Might just do without them since most people who would be interested in this speak English anyway...

I've edited Susan Stroman's commentary to fit the extended cut (with the original, non-commentary audio for the deleted scenes, of course), and I still have to do the menus. And perhaps I'll cobble together a trailer or something as a bonus feature. I should be done by this weekend, and I'll try to release a torrent soon after...

Oh by the way the audio is 2.0 -- because the deleted scenes only have 2.0 audio, and also because Adobe Premiere doesn't allow the exporting of 5.1 audio (unless you purchase the SurCode plugin -- what I don't understand is why it doesn't allow you to just export a 6-channel WAV file, or 6 mono WAV files, to be encoded with an external encoder like BeSweet).

When Ulla is on the ladder painting, she's wearing an apron. When she's not on it, it's gone. It's extremly noticable.

Maybe it is in the film proper, but I caught it in the deleted version.

I don't know how I missed that -- it's painfully obvious once you drew my attention to it. In fact, the apron is on her only in the close-up shots -- when it cuts to a wide shot with her on the ladder, the apron is gone.

The torrent is now up on Demonoid! It's a double-layer DVD. Cover art to follow soon (though I would welcome contributions from anyone who wants to do it) . . .

THE PRODUCERS (2005): EXTENDED EDITION
With deleted scenes reintegrated by Wui-Ming Gan

"Under the right circumstances, a producer could make more money with a flop than he could with a hit!"

With 12 minutes of deleted footage reintegrated into the movie, this extended edition of The Producers is the closest thing to seeing the show live on Broadway. Experience the show-stopping number "King of Broadway" on screen, laugh as Will Ferrell hams it up in "In Old Bavaria", and bring back nostalgic memories of the original 1968 movie with a scene in the Astor Bar and vignettes in "Along Came Bialy".

RUNNING TIME: 147 minutes
LANGUAGE: English
VIDEO FORMAT: Anamorphic widescreen
AUDIO FORMAT: Dolby Digital 2.0

BONUS FEATURES:
Outtakes
Analysis of a Scene: "I Wanna Be a Producer"
Feature Commentary with Director Susan Stroman

I'm sorry Spence, I had to turn my computer off for a bit . . . my parents don't like me leaving it on (and online) all the time. Also, my brother keeps turning Bittorrent off or limiting the download and upload speeds to conserve bandwidth for his online games . . . arghh. Can't wait to get back to college.

By the way, to those of you who have PM'd me to request a copy of the DVD, I'm sorry I haven't replied -- I will as soon as I clear up some of my old messages (you know how it is with the ridiculously low limit). In any case, unless you live in Asia, I'll send you the discs only when I'm back in the States, in about two weeks.

Finally got it. Great edit. Much better than the theatrical release. Shame you didn't do it in 5.1, but I know that would've been a bitch. Still, though. I love the edit. You're 2 for 2, what's next?

What you asked for -- The Producers: Extended Edition in 5.1! More news to be posted soon.

The Producers: Extended Edition version 2.0 (DL version), featuring 5.1 audio (the irony of the version number is fully intended), is finally up on The Pirate Bay, Demonoid and IsoHunt.

I will send copies of this edit to people who are willing to help me seed it. Please e-mail me at ganwuiming (at) gmail (dot) com if you're interested.

Those for whom I'd promised copies earlier, could you also drop me an e-mail to remind me?

Finally, would anyone be willing to design cover art for this? I can provide a hi-res scan of the original cover if you need it. Let me know. Thanks.

Oh no! I just realized that the version I released has a bug... one of the chapter buttons points to the wrong chapter!

What do you guys think -- should I delete this torrent and start seeding it all over again?
