as for you saying you saw something in empire of dreams, is it not possible that they just redid that one shot for the documentary. i am sure that they didnt have to redo a whole movie or one bloody shot.

as for how many will sell, ok well this forum is world wide. we got like what 70 000 signatures. i rounded it to 50 000 and assumed that for every one person to sign the petition there were 5 others out there that wanted it and didnt sign. thats pretty resonable right.

as for the cost how much do you think it would be to digitally re-render and re-edit, and clean up 3 two and a half hour movies. thats millions of frames, with thousands of flaws on them to clean and sharpen.

^They cleaned it all up for the 2004 DVD release so why not for the OUT, it certainly deserves it more then the SE's.

Maybe we could start donating so we could hire someone to break into the LFL archives and steal all the material we need lol.

What's a "super 8 film reel?" Isn't that a motel chain? Were they showing these in motel rooms?

I say F*** conformity. I don't need to fit in with the fanboys who blindly hate Lucas. While we are on the subject of changing aspect ratios we should make up wish lists. I say they need to make a Gameboy ratio. One that fits into the size of a gameboy in case they ever make a starwars emulator for it. That's about as reasonable a request as having aspects ratios that are mere inches different than the real ratio. I say any dvd with aspect ratios that are a inch off from what we want should never be made or purchased.

The original prints shown in theatres sure as hell weren't letterbox with black bars at the top and bottom. (EDIT: And certainly not left and right, either)

I mean, come on now. If you're trying to say anamorphic is altering the original version somehow, you are a complete and total idiot.

DUDE, what the hell is wrong with you? you don't realize how dumb you sound, I posted a link for you to read and get educated on what anamorphic is, but still you are talking crap, first you say stuff about toggling views? are you confusing multiple angles with anamorphic?, I don't know what you think anamorphic is, but let me just tell you one thing, you have to know about a topic before discussing it, so PLEASE for the love of the FORCE, do a little research and stop annoying everyone here.

The DVDs being released in September will contain two versions of Star Wars: Episodes IV, V and VI – the Special Editions (which represent George’s vision of the movies) and the first versions, which will be included as bonus material. We hoped that releasing those “original” movies on a bonus disc would be a way to have some additional fun with the debut of the movies as individual DVDs. We certainly did not want it to become a source of concern or frustration for any of our fans.


So many fans have requested the original movies, we wanted to find a way to bring them to you. But since these movies do not represent George's artistic vision,
We want you to be aware that we have no plans – now or in the future – to restore the earlier versions.


I really hate this "earlier version" crap! These 3 films that altered the cinematic landscape and stamped themselves in to popular culture; I never saw "First Draft" written on any of them.

Lucasfilm is just some bizarre cult where everyone is brainwashed. How anyone can believe this 'vision' thing is baffling.


And, if you think about it, what changes in the SEs can even come under the heading of "Artistic Vision" ?

Is it:

a) The slapstick droids

b) the "now you hear it now you don't" scream?

c) footage culled from a subsequent movie?

d) Re-dubbing actors?

e) atrocious CGI?

f) replacing actors!!

g) Pink lightsabres?

e) Gungans?


Which of these is "artistic vision"? And do any of them improve ANYTHING?!?!?

The replacing actors is what did it for me. I'm convinced that if you constructed a time machine, went back to the mid-90s, and tried to warn people about Lucas's plans for Star Wars (starting with pasting Christensen into ROTJ), you'd get laughed out of town. Yet here we are.

Well, I haven't been here in a while, but with all of this going on, I had to pop back in here and get the real story.

I took Jay's advice. I wrote, emailed and faxed Jim Ward at Lucasfilm. Well, the fax line has been busy all day. Hmmm. I wonder why?

I did get the same email response that everyone esle has gotten. I don't know. At this point, I'm pretty disgusted with the whole thing. I'm just about ready to take a hammer to all of my Star Wars DVDs and send them back to Lucas.

This whole thing just stinks. I have decided not to purchase these DVDs. I have reached my limit. The shroud of the dark side has fallen.
Keeping The Star Wars Hoiliday Special alive. Once person at a time. Stir, stir, whip, whip, stir, beat, beat.

You guys are seriously fucking up your own cause by reveling in the possibility of Lucas' death. It makes you look like total assholes to celebrate another mans passing just so you can get some DVD's.

If you want these movies on DVD, you're going to have to stop doing dickheaded things like hoping for another human being TO DIE.

Be constructive, not destructive. You're doing everyone at this site a disservice by cheering for a fatality.

The aspect ratio had no name but that is the dimentions used.

And for the others stop with the name calling. That itself is 5 year old behavior.

If you want a pure experience then stop asking for them to make it toggleble. The movie reels were never Anamorphic and there is no way to have made them that way. So stop asking for him to make DVD's that way. Yes, you can make the dvd support all of a DVD players options but that doesn't make it any truer to the original movie. That is the main reason to buy the release.

P.S. I read the anamophic faq things posted in the forum days earlier so get off the subject.


Are you a fool. the whole trilogy was filmed on 2.35.1 anamorphic film!!!!!!!!. they filmed it with a Panavison amnamorphic camera!

I don't want him to die over these movies. But I would like to see him go out into the middle of the road, get hit by a car Earl Hickey-style, and as he lies in a hospital with a broken leg and a neck brace, he writes out a list of all the things he's done wrong in life. Hopefully #1 will read, "Denied my fans the anamorphic DVD version of the orginal Star Wars." Is that wrong?
