Superman Movie — Page 16

I'm feeling that Hollywood is just being more rotten lately.

Pirates 2 looks just like Pirates 1, but this time with a Tentacle Pirate! Oooh! Original!
sorry... had to say it.

Anyway, Superman looks dull... so far.
The actor playing Superman is too young for me. I dont know about you, but whenever I hear "superman" I think
of someone like Christopher Reeve, just more tough looking and authorative... Wich is what I think would make a good Superman. Like mid-40-ish.
I'm not a REALLY big fan of the man of steel, and am looking forward to a good show (hope it is...), but either the actor can act well, or it won't be cool.

also, M:I:3 was pretty lame... and the camera shakes (it's a trend in hollywood these days) got me dizzy!
Never give in to trends, people... bad ones like this...

Basically, what you're saying is that when you see Superman you wanna see Superman... not Superboy.

I understand completely, and I wholeheartedly agree. Maybe I've just been spoiled by growing up watching Christopher Reeves, (who was an awesome Supes even in the bad ones), but that new guy just ain't hacking it for me.
For as much as some people claim to hate what Star Wars has become, they sure seem incapable of shutting up about it.

I'll complain more later about some of the apparent creative decisions that will be ruining this film for me but...

What really amuses me is that you have Lois Lane, established reporter etc, etc, played by an actress who IS 23, looks 20 or so and is supposed to have a 5 YEAR OLD CHILD.

"Hi Clark! Welcome back! Remember a few years ago when I was 18 and you and I had been working at the Planet since we were 11? Remember that after our high school graduation we got it on but you told me that you 'had it taken care of'....?"

*sigh*

ALL I wanted from this film was for some filmmaker to look at, oh say, THE BLOODY COMICS that have been put out over the last 20 years and make some all new creative choices based on those! Hay-zoos-H-freakin-christmas that's all they had tlo do. Don't try to remake a admittedly classic film. That was Donner's vision which given the state of Superman at that time was a great (in my opinion) vision. But this new film should not be BASED on that film!

Those things you mention are annoying. I'm hoping to be able to just ignore them and enjoy a good superman movie.

But I agree - it would be a lot easier for me to just enjoy a good superman movie if they weren't trying to graft this one on to the old ones.

Given that they restarted Batman, coincidentally after two crap movies, based it on the comics (albeit an amalgalm of a lot of comics), and restored it to its former glory - surely the logical thing to do would be to take EXACTLY the same approach to Superman after two shoddy movies! There are two comics in particular which would have been perfect for a page-for-page screen adaptation: Superman for All Seasons and Superman: Birthright. Birthright in particular would have been a fresh and new approach with a brave retelling of the superhero's origins - hell, it would even save the continuity of Smallville from being trodden all over - not that I would have cared either way, but commercially, if you can make both comic book fans and Smallville fans happy at the same time, you're laughing.

EXACTLY! At least there are a few who understand...

To add to what I've already said, there is a classic Superman 'look' as well that is present in all the comics. Broad jawline, big build, thick, black hair (let's not forget the cow-lick), brilliant blue eyes - they should be pre-requisites - and Reeve had them all...Surely, there must be someone in the world with these features who can act.

That's a better trailer than the last one. Less choppy. I'm still planning to see this in IMAX if at all possible. Gotta put on my 3-D clark kent glasses.

since this superman movie is suppose to pick up where smallville left off, does that mean that smallville is over. because they never said it was the series finale, just the season. i can't wait for this movie to come out though, i think it will be good. even if it is a little bit sappy.

I'm with you. They look like a pair of high schoolers. Plus the effects are too Matrixy.

I don't think this picks up where Smallville left off HLF, it picks up where the second Christopher Reeves movie left off.

Which is still stupid.

I don't know, I think it's an interesting idea if done properly (just like Star Wars prequels were an interesting idea).

Unfortunately, there's no one in Hollywood who can handle an "interesting idea" properly.

I watched Superman 2 last night. Damn Reeves looked good in the suit.

Just realised that sounds a bit gay... What I mean is, damn Reeves looked the part as Superman.

It certainly helped that they gave Reeve a REAL Superman suit made of cloth that actually matched how it was colored in the comics as opposed to sticking him in a suit that looked like a washed out rubber condom that vaguely resembles the Bizarro costume.

Speaking of Superman, is anyone keeping an eye out for that animated DVD to DVD thing Superman: Brainiac Attacks?

Also the fact that he had the whole square jaw and big build thing going on (his build was just right - not over-the-top Schwarzenneger big, but big enough to be Superman). In fact, he was so big that it was hard to believe him as a weedy geek when he was in his Clark Kent gear.

Now, I'm not too hot on the continuity of the Superman comics, but according to the Dean Cain TV show (which is probably not the best source) and an old comic I had as a kid that retold his origin, Clark's mother made the suit for him (she noticed that fabric near to his body did not get damaged). Is this the official DC line? If so, how the hell did Clark's mom mould a rubber suit for him? (I asked myself the same question when watching Spiderman, expecially given the fact that you saw Peter's first attempt at making a costume during the wrestling match).

That's the MacGuffin doing its job. Some sources have Supes costume being made from the fabric that lined his spaceship from Krypton. Hence it's indestructability.
