Cut scenes

Does it bother anyone else that Lucas has refused to release cut scenes from the original trilogy (with the exception of the "Making Magic" CD-ROM), but almost overloads the DVDs of the prequels with cut scenes?

Yes. Yes it does bother me. I was just thinking about that, actually. I'll go ahead and give him the benefit of the doubt on that one, though, since they're so old compared to the prequels, where he completed the special effects for the sole purpose of putting them on the DVD.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I was just thinking about that last night too.

There are always deleted scenes and some times hilarious outtakes with today's DVD movies. I would love to see deleted scenes from all 3 films (anchorhead scenes, the Jabba hanger scene - sans Jabba, the part where they do the autopsies on the Tauntauns, C-3PO taking the sticker off the door, the sandstorm on Tattoine).

Most of these we have never seen before, and for those who have the deleted magic CD-ROM we've only seen the anchorhead stuff. Which is gold by the way. But I want to see it in a non-crustified version.

Yes, but on the other hand, OT deleted scenes are important part of the myth. For what we will be seeking, the day we would have seen those treasures? In fact, I desperately want to see those scenes (even if I already have seen some, the most famous), but I don't want to break the myth... Difficult thoughs...

True, true. My intent in this thread was not to necessarily suggest that the deleted scenes for the original trilogy be made available on DVD. I was more interested in why George and Rick seem to think that EVERY deleted scene from the PT should be on DVD, but that NO deleted scenes from the OT should be on DVD.

I think it's fun imagining how ifferent a feeling Star Wars might have had if the space battle from the ground and the Anchorhead scenes with Biggs and buddies would have been left in. That's just me tho. When I first saw all of that with sound on the Deleted Magic DVD (love love love the thing) I loved being able to see it. I hadn't even known it existed outside the novel.

It obviously seems to be an American Graffiti homage of some sort. Outside that deleted scene, you never get a glimpse of what life was like for Luke on Tatooine. I mean, you barely ever see him work, just eat and clean the droids, then off on an adventure. I personally feel it adds another dimension to Luke and his extremely normal life on Tatooine compared to what he was destined to become.

Not exactly a homage, that was the way George was used to writing, they told him to remove it because it was becoming American Graffiti in space.

With that making magic CD-Rom, it was great to see parts of Star Wars that had never been seen before for the first time. But it is so little and I think there is a lot more out there. It is sad its locked away never to be seen. I really, really want the deleted stuff from Empire. The first time I found out about the wampa subplot in echo base was when a friend and I were watching an old ESB trailer and saw the part with threepio ripping the sign off. We recongnized right away that it was not in the film. Later it was cool to realize that in the game Shadow of the Empire in echo base there are doors with that same sign on it with wampas inside (my friend and I actually used to film mock documentaries about wampas using that game and a VCR). I would really love to see any deleted footage of that those scenes that they have. I was kind of surprized when the first SW DVDs came out. I thought they would all be in two disc cases like the PT with a bonus disc each, instead just one bonus disc with very little of anything important on it.

Maybe when Lucas is dead there will be an ultimate 6 disk set of just the original original trilogy. Something like the Gone with the Wind set. 3 disk are our theatrical movie versions, and 3 other disks that are chalk-full of extra material, including all the delated scenes for each movie.

We can dream.

I'm sure something like that will happen, but it will be in many, many, years, when Star Wars is a very old film (I'm talking like, 75 years old - a relic of a moviemaking age long-gone, just like Gone with the Wind).

War does not make one great.
