$36 pre-order (AR) for all 3 titles...anyone found it cheaper??

The cheapest I've found it for pre-order right now is around $36.21 AR (including 6% tax for me) for all three. This is pre-ordering them at FYE.com with a 10%-off code (mmten). $7 mail-in rebate for each title. Free shipping. $57.21 total - $21 rebates = $36.21. Anyone found it any cheaper?? I'd like to give Lucas as LITTLE as possible for this crap!

If i found it for $1 i wouldnt buy it.

But $36 after rebates is a pretty impressive find.

Yes, I found it cheaper, goto www.ebay.com, they are selling them in non-anamorphic widescreen 2.0, unfortunately their illegal, but they will be the same as the Sept. release.

It's not illegal until September 12, and even then it is still a gray area.

Yes, American dollars. There is a box you will encounter while ordering that asks for a "Promotion Code". You enter "mmten" (without quotes) in the box during checkout.

You could try giving him $0. That's my plan.

They cost £12 each on CD WOW!, meaning £36 in all. Push them down to ~£28 after rebates and you get somewhat similar price.

Be mindful of your money. Patience. Wait for reviews, screen caps, comparissons etc. Just because it's a 'good deal' doesn't mean it's a 'good deal'

But why can't I...

Not buying these is not an option for me. Here is my viewpoint:

Not buying these = kissing the OT goodbye forever. We asked for the OT, and we're getting it...not the type of transfer we expected, but the OT nonetheless. I see NO wisdom in not buying these. Lucas will be justified in the future by saying, "See...I tried to dump these things in '06 and nobody bought them". Nobody will question whether they were anamorphic or not.

Buy them now, put the sales through the roof to remove all doubt (numbers don't lie), THEN start hitting GL up for a better transfer. Lucas doesn't read letters/emails/faxes/whatever. He only knows sales numbers. My opinion is to SHOW HIM!! Of course, your viewpoint may differ

It's precisely this attitude that has encouraged Lucas to take advantage of fan loyalty by issuing a release that isn't worthy of even the smallest independent studios.

Nobody would buy this release if it were any other movie. It would be considered unacceptable.

I'm with you 100%...but I'm not hearing any alternatives. It doesn't matter what we think about this release, or what we think Lucas thinks about this release. It's his ball. If it doesn't make him enough money, it wasn't worth it for him to release whatever crap he releases. What happens if these are released in a non-anamorphic version? Do you give up? Do you not buy? What would be proven by not purchasing this release? What will be gained? Writing and telling Lucas now that we want them in an anamorphic format is a good idea...unless they're already prepared for release and/or there isn't time to change them. So we don't buy them. Then what?? Now Lucas has all the ammunition he'd ever need to suppress the OT for good. "Sales were pathetic." No writing campaign, full-page ads, boycott, etc. will change his mind if this release flunks. In my opinion we all would lose then. I think we've made progress in just having him admit that they exist. That's the first step, but probably not the ONLY step.

When do you give up on Star Wars??... Just my opinion, BTW. All other opinions respected

I agree. We may have to take it up the ass on this one. And we may have to love Star Wars than "ourselves" (i.e. our money). It's all babysteps, but we are essentually funding the preservation of these films. It shouldn't have to fall on us, but that's life.

If we want these movies to be in the best form of preservation for our children (but not for our children's children, because I don't believe children should be having sex) we are going to have to shell out extra money for it to happen.

Like I said, it's not fair, but this is war. And war isn't always fair. If we don't buy them we are sending Lucas the message that we don't want them. And then, nobody wins. I'm not happy with the situation (which is why we are voicing our displeasure via e-mail and letter), but I would be even more unhappy if there wasn't a hope that a better version might be on the horizon.

Right. I feel that if this release flops, this has all been in vain. We'll have nothing to fight with anymore. It sucks. It'll cost us money. It may never end...but we won't know until we've tried. Welcome to the world of the hardcore Star Wars OT fan.

I saw Star Wars 8 times in movie theaters when it was ORIGINALLY released. Yup. Those were the days...by cracky.

With some of the posts I'm seeing around here, I'm almost convinced this release really is exactly what the majority of Star Wars fans truly deserve.

Kind of sad how people are ready to accept whatever Lucas throws at them in the hopes that he'll bless us with a copy of the holy trilogy that finally meets industry standards.

Count me out.

I think that both sides here have very good points. Personally, I am stuck with indicision at this point. If I decide to NOT buy them, it can't just end their. There must be loud vocal reasoning as to why. Not just a silent boycott. The media, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Fox, and everyone else has to know why sales were so low. Especially George. Those who decide not to buy, must keep up the fight.

I am not saying that the buyers are giving in or quiting. I'm saying that just not buying is not enough to make us heard. Lucas must not get away with this.

Umm....'scuze my ignorance but...where are we getting the information concerning what exactly the transfers are going to consist of? How do we know that they won't be anamorphic? Just wondering...

It was suspected and tossed around since the initial announcement, and some of us were even warned by insiders. It was confirmed last week by Bill Hunt at the Digital Bits through multiple contacts and Fox and Lucasfilm.
