As for Anamorphic, it is an industry standard and has been since 2001, every DVD is encoded in Anamorphic, even crap titles like Gigli. This should be of good quality, that was always a given, because if we wanted Laserdisk quality, why would we want DVD's?
But as for the specifics after that, I was always afraid this would happen. I think many of us differ on what we want on these movies, or what the O-OT exactly is.
For me, I think it should be exactly like the E.T. release on DVD. Both versions, original & SE, both have the same exact transfer, and the only difference is the special effects & changes that Spielberg put in 2002. Both have 5.1 DD, and 2.0 Dolby Surround which it was in the theaters in 1982.
I thought the O-OT should have the same quality as the 2004 DVDs, except the bad lightsabers and the wrong surrounds used for ANH score. They both should be 5.1 DD, and 2.0 Surround like they were in the theater. I want to be able to choose between the SE & O-OT without any difference in quality. Now I know if I want great quality, it is probably going to be the SE.
Now, as I have read lately, that is not what everyone wants, and that is the dilemma we face for not being specific.
