I did see at FYE yesterday a sign at the doors that said "Star Wars! Unaltered! September 12! The wait is finally over!" All official Lucasfilm material, too.

Anamorphic widescreen would be nice... hell, I'd love a fully restored new transfer with all the love and dedication the OOT deserves as much as the next guy. But I'm happy (not satisfied, mind you, but happy nonetheless) with the fact that the damn thing is being made available in the first place.

EDIT: On a related note, I still have the Faces VHS set in mint condition. While this isn't much, I bought it when I was 12 because I wanted to keep it forever. Wehn I heard that the OUT was coming to DVD, I almost cracked it open to watch them, but with the non-anamorphic news, I'm glad I didn't

Non Anamorphic Widescreen = NO F***in Way
I am still hoping our letters and emails that have flooded Lucasfilm the last few days make a difference, but if they are not anamorphic, there is no way I am buying this, cause it will look like total crap, and I am not goint to pay 60 bucks for something I already have.
Lucas had me buying this opening day with the original specs: Anamorphic Widescreen, 2.0 Dolby Surround, and I was there the minute Best Buy opened. But if this rumor is true, he is pissing on the fans, and it shows me he doesn't want them to be good quality so the next generation will never want to watch these over the SE. Plus it is a nice jab at us to say, "You want em, you got em, you just were never specific."
If these are non-anamorphic, F-U George, I will be retiring from giving a crap about SW anymore. This is the final straw of a bitter divorce with his OT fans going on 10 years now. Sept. 12th, the divorce may be finalized. But as always, there is a chance at a reconcilization..............

With an official release I know it would work. Period. But I may be sacrificing quality for reliability. I just don't know. I'm tempted by the dark side and it seems that Lucas has just found out that the OOT is really my...twin sister.

1) they will be the best available version of the OUT on DVD;
2) to encourage future releases of the OUT on future formats.
