I've heard this morning that some parts of the book aren't in the movie and parts of the movie are not in the book,so like other book to movie stories, thing were changed.

I've read it. I like Tom Hanks, but I think he's been miscast. I'll wait till I see it to pass judgement though.

yeah i think he's been miscast as well. in the paper today there was a review that said it was good but 'messy'. not exactly a good word to describe a movie

I've heard bad reviews, and I belive the book is nothing more than an over-hyped pseudo-literature, Harry Potter for "grownups". I have NO intention to see it.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Ric, you're pretty much right about the book, but that doesn't stop it from being an enjoyable read, and a good way to pass the time on the London Underground on your way to work.

I'm quite disappointed the movie is getting mediocre reviews. I was looking forward to it, and it's rare for Ron Howard to disappoint.

I've not read the book.
I'm not likely going to see the movie (definitely not in the theaters...I suppose its possible I'd get it from the library when its on DVD).

Simple reason: I'm not really interested in it.

yeah i donno about this one. i didnt think the book was that well written, it is ovrehyped. i also thought that hanks was pretty miss-cast, but after seeing more of the previews i think he might be able to pull it off. i dont really expect much from the movie its going to be like national treasure with toms hanks if its done properly.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking - a slightly better National Treasure starring Tom Hanks.

If only this book had been written 15 years ago - Harrison Ford would have been perfect. Or maybe George Clooney. I can even see Hugh Jackman in the role. But Tom Hanks? I love him, but he's not Robert Langdon.

Has anyone here read Angels and Demons? I read it before Da Vinci and preferred it.

I've heard the movie is pretty bad. IGN gave it 1 out of 5 stars. Ouch.

Well, it's not like I was hoping it would be a success, but I was EXPECTING it to be.

I really have little opinion on this. I've only seen the previews. Never read the book. Barely know what it's about. I thought it was a big religious philosophy thing in the guise of fiction. The previews make it seem like an action thriller.

Yeah I read Angels and Demons first sophomore year of high school and had to do a presentation on it for English. I didn't even know he had a book before it or after it and it was right before The Da Vinci Code mania blew open. A part of me preferred it (the nerd side) because it had lots more to do with insanely cool theories and facts revolving around science as well as awesome the religion parts of it. That and it had the very interesting ambigrams. A good fun read.

BTW....the movie is beautiful. To each his own but seriously....if you haven't read the book, I doubt you'll very much enjoy the movie. That and if all you are looking for is a smarter National Treasure. THIS IS NOT AN ACTION/THRILLER. It's dialogue driven. I'd say mystery is it's genre.

Thanks Jarhead, you have restored my interest in the film. I'm going to see it tonight at the one and only Jamestown theater, AKA the 'Buffalo Theater'. Sheesh.

EDIT: I have just been informed by the missus that it's actually called the Bison Theater. My Bad.

I really, really, REALLY hope the book was better than the movie. I have yet to read the book, but after seeing the movie, I don't know if I want to.

This movie was.........well, for lack of better words, stupid. And I was reminded very much of National Treasure.

The acting was flat (except for Sir Ian McKellan, of course), the dialogue was dull, and the movie itself boring. And I don't get bored by movies easily, first of all. I don't need lots of action in a movie for me to enjoy it. But this one was just......dull.

Not to mention that the plot itself was prepposterous. I actually laughed at the whole Last Supper painting revelation scene. But then again, that's just me.

Even though I say this movie is stupid though, I love it. I love it in the same way I love "Plan 9 from Outer Space"; it's so bad, so preposterous, so stupid, that I can't help but love it.

So basically the movie comes across as a crappy version of National Treasure?

4

Author

Well, considering I thought National Treasure was crappy too, I guess I hold them on pretty much the same level.

Oddly enough, both movies involved the Knights Templar. Is it some kind of unwritten rule that all movies involving the Knights Templar have to suck or something?

I am going to watch the movie tonight.

I have not read the book.

I do not want to read the book.

I simply wish to watch the film and enjoy it.

Also, I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to give the picketing nuns outside of my theatre

Oh, come one, Nanner. National Treasure was certainly no Star Wars, but it wsn't a bad flick.

[movie reference] Nanner is not coming on anything! [/movie reference]

Seriously though, Chalts, I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree on National Treasure. I thought that one was a turd. It was sort of like a half-ass Indiana Jones rip-off.

And speaking of indy rip-offs, there was a shameless one in Da Vinci Code near the beginning, where Silas smashes through the floor of a cathedral with a metal post. Sound familiar?

That's not saying much. Angels and Demons, while an interesting plotline, had even more inconsistencies and factual errors than Da Vinci Code. Brown, rather than trying to pass theological theories as truth, simply made errors in physics, architecture, geography....you name it. Dan Brown, as an author, is terrific at making stupid people feel smart for having read the book, and smart people feel stupid for having read the book.

hahaha yeah i know about all the problems with angels and demons. i am quite knowledgable about all the stuff he talks concernign science, and alot of it is true. i.e. the yeild of anti-matter, how its made, and his storage system makes sense as well. however all of it being very theroetical cant be done cause either a. its to hard, i.e. catching the antimatter and isolating it before it cancels out. and b. making it in the quantities nessary in the novel would cost hundreds of billions of dollars worth of power.

I'm well aware of it too, and how amazingly WRONG he could be. Well, not necessarily wrong per se, but unbelieveable
