I still wear my shirt with pride, Mike! I'll be wearing it on September 12th for certain.
I am fluent in over six million forms of procrastination.

Expecting Mike will enjoy it more than the official release?

Thanks, Mike...I think that's where I was headed finally (roto over properly sized LD footage, then composite those new bolts on the DVD frames). Although I've noticed that whatever happened to the glow, be it Lowry or something else entirely, doesn't seem to have simply eliminated the outer parts of the glow optical, as some of what look like the cores of the DVD bolts are definetly off-center to the LD footage. And I thought the problem started with the DVDs, but going back to the Revax "?" SE transfers, the problem was there in the 1997 release (although not QUITE as badly mangled). I know it's been said before, but what a colossal mess they made of that shot.
Oh, and cbaka, just to reiterate for, I dunno, probably the thousandth time, Legacy WILL NOT BE RELEASED TO THE PUBLIC IN ANY WAY. Verta's documenting his restoration and FX fixes only as a personal record, and as a guide for anyone else who wants to embark on a similar effort. If you want this version, you're sadly going to have to recreate it yourself.

The bolts in that shot were originally painted with, um, questionable convergence. The more you work on that shot the more you see it... as for the look itself, it was actually quite difficult to get it right, especially by the time the bolts are way up at the tip of the hull. To get that right, I actually had to paint on full 2k-sized plates and scale them down. I think that one shot alone has something like 250 layers in my AE comp. I don't miss it.

How do you enjoy this if it won't ever be shared? I thought the general concenses was that this project would never be sold or shared with anybody and that it was more to share the techniques involved.

I seem to recall mverta stating, "I can't share the work without becoming the world's largest hypocrite, since I make my living on royalities from my own art. I also would be breaking the law, and seeding some seriously bad mojo by betraying the work that inspired my life's pursuits."

So please enlighten me on how one goes about "enjoying" this restoration....

... and since that time, I've been hired by Lucasfilm to work on a couple of Star Wars projects, so that'd REALLY be pissing in my own pool, wouldn't it?

In any case, my stance, stands - I can't distribute it. But I will be having a couple of private screenings when it's done. The rest of the work I publish to inspire, inform, and entertain. It's not a perfect galaxy...

Right - I was agreeing with you vbangle, in wondering what cbaka was expecting. I was suggesting that (s)he was expecting that Mike (a.k.a. mverta) would be enjoying it more than the official OUT release.

BTW you can't receive PMs (Private Messages) unless you switch them on in your profile.

Well sh*t, I certainly stepped into this time, didn't I? Thanks for being patient and kind with me.....

I am dissappointed that this project won't be shared but I completely understand why.....sorry about the misunderstanding on my part THX.....

Sorry, I think THX was referring to me and my profile....
I'm new here and was confused about a post up the page a bit....

Words do not express how impressive your efforts and talents are mverta.....

If Lucas does indeed visit this forum, he is a moron for not snatching you up and paying you whatever your price is for your talent and artistic eye.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

I was only 5 when the original Star Wars came out; I don't have a specific memory of the crawl being absent the "Episode IV"; nonetheless, I'm considering doing it for my Legacy Edition. Can somebody tell me if this is correct, i.e., is it just this simple?!

That would be very cool to have the original crawl in the Legacy collection.

If you want to see the speed of the titles and how fast the original star wars logo went by watch Empire of Dreams, they have a clip of the original crawl (in ANAMORPHIC--wtf?).

The actual text was a different format though. The words are the same but the spacing (and possibly even the speed of the crawl) is different. Someone else can probably provide you with the original formatting.

(btw--the words in your screenshot look kind of crooked and skewered; is this just me?)

Mike, I think the line breaks are as shown here:

It is a period of civil war.
Rebel spaceships, striking
from a hidden base, have
won their first victory
against the evil Galactic
Empire.

During the battle, rebel
spies managed to steal
secret plans to the Empire’s
ultimate weapon, the
DEATH STAR, an armored
space station with enough
power to destroy an entire
planet.

Pursued by the Empire’s
sinister agents, Princess
Leia races home aboard her
starship, custodian of the
stolen plans that can save
her people and restore
freedom to the galaxy. . . .

The EditDroid DVD has a recreated version that is pretty good.

Edit: yeah, you're right, Rev. Updated.

I believe that the word "rebel" isn't capitalized.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.
