Those are so full of so many bad photoshop cliches, it's laughable. For god's sake that person needs to have their outer glow filter taken away from them...now. I don't know why I was expecting anything better. GL, just use one of the original freakin' posters. It's just not that hard. Oh well...

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

Well I expected worse. But the 04 covers were by far worse. These are an improvement for sure. I don't particularly care for them for various reasons, BUt I guess after seeing all the fine covers on this site, I may be spoiled.

Coov, we await your covers with baited breath.

If Lucasfilm is going to release the OOP with these DVD covers, they had better put something on the front cover that alerts people to the fact that these sets contain the unaltered editions, because the average consumer will probably assume that this is just a re-release of the 2004 versions.

So why the hell couldn't they use the original posters then? Or is it it costs more since they have to pay the original artists? Much cheaper to have an intern who can use photoshop I guess.

I hate, HATE how Hayden Christensen looks in the Vader costume! Vader is supposed to be menacing. Those covers make him look so fake and cheesy.

If Lucas is going to continue to shove his bad casting decisions on us in the form of Christensen in the Vader suit, why doesn't he just digitally replace David Prowse in the OT and be done with it?!

Long story short. Fan art all the way, baby! If I even decide to give him my money for this Johnny-come-lately attempt to mollify his fan base at the behest of his accountants.

I think I'm going to throw up.

Honestly, these covers are embarrassing whether you like SW or not, being even just a general movie/DVD fan, by looking at these covers you have no choice but to think, "Which n00b, lacky kissed ass and got to use MS Paint for a day???"

It looks like Peter Cushing was exhumed for the SW cover. I think these are slightly better than the 04 covers, which just make me nausiated. These only get me confused and a little queasy.

Not to put too fine a point on it, those covers suck, big time. They're almost as bad as the ultra suck-fest that was the '04 covers. Someone is being well paid to do that photoshopping, and then those covers are passing through many hands of people being paid for quality control and approval. It's incredible that no-one says "wait a minute - these look terrible". If you want good covers, you'll have to make your own or use some of the great ones here.

I've read a few conspiracy theories about Lucas's plans with this release, none of which I believe. Here's mine, which I think is plausible: LFL have been planning the OUT release since last year. The three disc set was originally going to be it, which is why it had the original poster art on it (and no bonus disc, as it would be supposed to be a companion to the '04 set). Then George said "hang on, that way they can get the OUT without my improved '04 editions - what if it outsells them?" So they postponed the OUT release and just put out the '04 discs again. Now they package them together, so it can be spun either way, regardless of sales.

Are they doing an original crawl on STAR WARS for the new DVD's?

If so...shouldnt they remove "A new hope" ?

EDIT: "See the title crawl to Star Wars before it was known as Episode IV; see the pioneering, if dated, motion control model work on the attack on the Death Star; groove to Lapti Nek or the Ewok Celebration song like you did when you were a kid; and yes, see Han Solo shoot first."

Somebody at lucas' design team should be doing this right about now: http://209.85.12.227/2087/182/emo/34.gif

Well, bear in mind that this is the cover for the 2-disc set, so the 'main disc' is indeed "A New Hope", while the 'bonus disc' is "Star Wars."

The thing is, the AVERAGE consumer probably doesn't really care. I used to see the AVERAGE consumer where I used to work, all the time and 95% of them pretty much knew nothing about movies.

Oh, and those covers are terrible. Just unbelievable how bad a PROFESSIONAL piece of work can be. Especially when you see the talent of the covers in this thread. The best cover I've seen recently is for the 2-disc V for Vendetta - it captures the essence of the movie nicely.
where have i been all this time ?

I always thought the '04 covers were truly awful, but I didn't care that much, 'cause they're only the SSE anyway. But it's really incredible to think that that "artwork" has been reproduced literally millions of times on what is probably the biggest selling DVD series there will ever be. Anyone who's thinking of sending back their SSE discs to LFL should include the covers.

I really admire what they tried to do with these covers conceptually. But the choice of certain publicity photos is very poor. You would think someone with access to LucasFilm archives could get some better pub photos.

The good news is that I think it would be possible to scan these covers when they come out and fix them.

    1. The post-accident Mark Hamill should not be used on the ANH cover. I know there are not many pre-accident publicity photos, but still, this really irks me, as it did on the '04 DVD cover. Something must be done about this. For the good of mankind, we need to put a Photoshop think-tank together.

    2. Replace Vader on the ANH cover with this one:

    3. On ESB, use the right pub photo for Han:
    http://www.blueharvest.net/images/pr/chewie-han.jpg

    4. At the very least, on the ESB cover use an Episode III pub photo of Vader that doesn't show-off the skinny neck:
    http://www.messengermods.com/data/media/87/starwars3-darth_vader.jpg

    5. On the ROTJ cover, add some X-Wings in, like on the original poster, to fill in the empty spaces.

    6. Also on the ROTJ cover, use any publicity photo of Vader where he doesn't look like a CARTOON!

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

My covers:

http://thomas-anders.dk/private/se.jpg

I don't like the new covers for the upcoming releases myself. But the 2004 versions had to have those covers, because they had to match the prequel trilogy.

Well, my opinion about the new covers:

ANH:
It looks weird with those fighters flying on a line like an ant army. Looks stupid. I also hate the floating heads, and this covers has the worst of them all. Peter Cushing and Alec Guinness looks so weird. Chewbacca stands weird, and the worst part is the explosion on the right side. And it's also using a ROTS Vader.

ESB:
First of all, the purple teint is soo disgusting and secondly having a ROTS Vaders mess things up. There's no lightsaber or laser beams to give the cover a contrast. Third, look at Luke, Han, Carrie and Yoda. They are looking at the same direction, yet Lando finds something more interesting on the other side - that's ugly, plus using the Han Solo promo shot of ANH doesn't make it better.

ROTJ:
When watching the three covers next to each other, ROTJ looks so weird, because we can only see a part of Vader's mask and on the other we see part of the body and arms. The teint around the characters are to poor made, because it's so thin, and why on earth leave out Lando?
