Should there be an ULTIMATE EDITION!

First of all the trilogy dvd quality sucks. The movies had so many errors its heart breaking. Some I came with a few ideas.

1. They should use obi from I,II and III in the trilogy. This way they can change alot of things that really need to be changed. If they use him they could show that he recognizes r2 & 3po but doen't say it. The lightsaber fight between vader & obi in IV ANH sucks! They can redo it with him to make it a little better but not to stunty and sword twisting like I,II and III. So that means vader would have to change too. Which would be good because vaders helmet looks like crap in IV. They can place a better looking vader in IV (not changing the scenes just vader). Also in VI ROTJ obi could tell luke that he promise to train anakin (promised Qui Gon in I).

2. LIGHTSABERS! what went wrong with that. Man pick a color please, are they red or pink, green or blue. In I,II and III the lightsabers look perfect and have the right color. That really needs to change in the trilogy. When the lightsabers touch you should see that bright light and here that sound more clearer. Where is the orange burn mark when the saber slices something (when luke gets his hand cut off - when vader gets his hand cut off or when luke is slicing all those guys on jabbas ship in VI).

3. I think all the space travel, starship fights should be CGI ( all space scenes including the deathstar). Look how perfect all the space fights, starships and planets looked in I,II and III. I wouldn't mind a CGI yoda either.

4. Stormtroopers should have the same voice from I,II and III.

5. They should replace the unmasking scene in VI with a burnt deformed Hayden like in III. I think they should use the same voice still (a voice over sounds like it would work).

These changes and a few more sounds good. What do you think?

Welcome to the boards, Je. Glad you've put some thought into this, but I should warn you that I doubt you'll find too many proponents of those ideas here. Most of us here prefer the theatrical versions of the Star Wars trilogy and are very much against it being altered in any way, especially to fit in with the prequels. But I hope you have a good time. Most of us here are really nice people.

Now that we are getting the OTR on DVD, I really don't care what Mr. Insano (aka George Lucas) does to the films, and I think that some of your changes sound OK if you wanted a 6 part saga that works. Personally I think the best way would have been to make prequels that matched and did't contradict the originals, but hey. From a hypothetical standpoint I don't see any problem with Je's ideas. But replacing Alec Guinness?

BTW you might like to check out the Starkiller Ranch thread in the preservations section - they are working on edits of all six movies so that they work better as a saga.

War does not make one great.

I agree with YIYF that it would have worked better if the prequels had been made to fit the OT, not the other way around.

I think it was more back and forth. The prequels were made to fit the OT but then the OT was made to fit the prequels.

Sounds lame. Anything that combines the OT with the PT is bogus to me. The CGI space battles sounds alright yet not nesacary but to make it "Ultimate" I would add the deleted seems with BIggs and Lukes friends for ANH, the sand storms for RTJ, and the Lando and Boba Fett confrintation for ESB.

Sometimes i wish Lucas would just assemble a new cast and remake the original trilogy the way he wanted. To be perfectly frank, most of the additions stand out like a sore thumb in the OT

Je, I've heard the reason that their voices changed for the OT was that the Empire started recruiting 'normal' people as storm troopers so that there would be more of a diversity of talents.

Man, way to get lynched around here! I'm surprised by the restraint of my fellow members! Perhaps the only change I would support would be something along the lines of consistent lightsaber colours. I'm not sure what I would think of re-rotoscoping them altogether: the lightsabers of the prequels are far too 'solid' looking and detract from the spiritual undertones of the weapon's symbolism.

But I've read crazier wishlists than yours from fans of the PT, so hold your breath - the changes you seek are probably on the horizon. Perhaps giving us the OOT is LFL's green-light to further alter the trilogy.

I usually accept people's opinions and move on, but as an overall motion picture fan I say this.

Sequels and/or prequels if made, should be made to fit into the original story that has been established. NOT re-release an original with changes to have it fit in with the new stuff, that's just plain lazy and the easy way out which then shows up on screen it was the easy way out. If the original SW trilogy failed miserably, I could maybe understand George going back and re-making it, because it wasn't how he wanted it and felt it could have really been something. This still isn't an excuse to destroy your former work though.

Anyways, George could have done great things with the PT, but unfortunately I believe years away from cinema, as well as deciding to direct the movie himself, were just some of the lead points as to why the PT failed, not to mention awful dialogue in the script, as well as bad performances by the actors.

Ewan was great as Obi-wan for the most part and really convincing, but Hayden needed coaching and was instructed to come across as a moany child, as did Natalie for some scenes that didn't warrant it, guaranteeing their cold, cardboard-cut-out like performances, however I feel she was great in V for Vendetta and other movies she has done. The worst decision besides a character like Jar-jar, had to be the extreme Americanisation of Anakin, not to mention making him much too young in EP I. Yelling out "Mommmm" makes me feel like I'm watching a children's Christmas movie, which correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't Jake Lloyd in one with big Governor Arnie??? I'd be interested to hear what my American friends think of that, because being from Australia, I react to the saying of "Mom" as very 80s and 90s sitcom like.

There all ready was an "Ultimate" version of sorts. It was called the "Ultimate Experience" and it was the last time Star Wars (OT) was played wide screen on tv (sci-fi channel) before the Special Editions came out.

So what do you call your mom? I have never refered to my mother as anything other than "mom", and I probably have yelled it like that too. In fact I still would if she didn't pass away in 2003, and I am 30 years old.

Ratlsnake, FYI, mom is just the standard word in these parts, it's not dated.

Back to the original question: Should there be an ULTIMATE EDITION?

Answer: no.

Sorry guys, I didn't explain myself well.

I also use the term mum/mom. What I was trying to convey was that the manner in which it was said felt a little too comical and "feel good". The young Anakin is a slave child who knows nothing of the real world, and is completely oppressed. Now I realise it could be argued that he's too young to know any different, but the first movie proved that even as a young boy Anakin's Jedi powers have him smarter than most beings on the planet 3 times his age. Just a thought. It wasn't meant to be offensive to any memebers.

No offence taken, I was just trying to answer your question. But I understand now that what you're saying is that Jake Lloyd sucked. Agreed.

While I think that Lucas should and will eventually release an "ULTIMATE" edition (SIDE BY SIDE with thet theatrical versions, THANK YOU VERY MUCH).... I don't think many of the changes suggested in the original thread are necceasry and some of them are just plain bad ideas.

Replacing Alec Guiness? No effing way. Dubbing all the Stormtroopers? No. They had non-clones by this time.

They should put Shaw back in the Ghost scene and the end and NEVER, EVER put Hayden in the Originals. The lightsaber fixing is a good idea, and pretty obvious. Some of the special effects shots may be better in CG, but most of them are perfectly fine without it. And the Yoda puppet being replaced is just as bad as replacing Guiness or Shaw.

The Ultimate Edtions, should they ever exist, ought to be more about fixing the flaws of the 2004 DVDs than replacing more stuff to fit the blasted prequals.

At the rate we're going there'll be more ultimate or special or super-uber great Star Wars editions than there have been US presidents. Just give us the original versions and be done with it already!
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

Maybe this "SE-release-in-installments" things is actually designed to slowly adapt us O-OT'ers.

I mean the 97 was shocking enough--can you imagine if we went from OOT to 2004 SE in one shot?? Hayden, Greedo, Naboo AND Jedi Rocks all in the same release? I think some of us here would have heart attacks!

Actually i have a confession to make--i watched the SE of ESB last night. I've always loved the original Fett voice and was appaled to hear Jango Fett in place of him in 2004. But last night...i didn't mind. In fact...I found it suitable. Whats going on??

Slap yourself in the face. Now do it again. Then find the nearest person in the house and ask them to slap you too. Now stand in front of a mirror with a permanent marker. Write "Jeremy Bullock IS Boba" on your forehead. Problem solved.

Your ideas stink like dead rats, unless you're being satirical in which case I applaud you for not throwing a give-away Smiley on the end of your post.

The lightsabers looked like crap in the new movies, the CGI was hit and miss.
What you *really* want is for George Lucas to make 4, 5, and 6 Again, correct? I don't think one can really 'make' the originals match up with the new ones. If you want 6 movies that work together, you'd really just have to wait 20 years, then get all the PT actors back onboard to make 4, 5 and 6.

The bonus about this idea (making an all new 'OT') is that maybe he'd quit fucking with the good movies.

Muahaa. I was plenty nice, and I apparently inspired our beloved Je to start a new thread off the idea of making the OT again.

I am not for a minute saying a recreated OT using PT actors would be good. I'm saying that if Lucas would just do that instead, he wouldn't fuck up the originals anymore.
