I'll be sending back two sets. Screw it, he can keep that trash.

Okay, it would be funny, for those who are getting two sets, and also most likely making new cases to send the discs in the box, you know, with '04 discs in the front and in the extras disc holder, and Lucasfilm gets it and there's 04s filling the whole thing, LOL. That's awesome!

I plan to write something along these lines (unless people come up with something we can all use): thank you mr. lucas for creating and making the star wars movies. I mean no ill will towards you, but i am sending back these movies because the only ones i ever wanted were the original star wars films, but purchasing them made that impossible unless i also bought these, so you can have these back now to do with as you please. very cordially yours, (insert name).

Sorry about three posts in a row. It's just how it happened.

maybe, to combine both ideas of sending them back and giving them to charity, we could send them back to Lucas unharmed and write to him that he could give them to charity on our behalf.

So give GL, a guy most folks in here dislike.... more money. The hypocracy is amazing.

Complain that GL sucks too much money out of the fans.... "he makes us buy....etc" but then turn around and give him twice as much money all so that you can mail your old set to him... and that way, the next time fans start a petition to give to LFL, they'll remember when those same "fans" from the biggest petition of all, got what they wanted and then turned around acted like babies.

Smooth move.

First of all, I went out of my way to admit that your idea had some merit to it. Second of all, in case you hadn't noticed, our "plan" is not to boycott Lucas. Whether his attitude is there or not, he is technically giving us what we want, and we want the originals to be popular, so, yeah, we will be shelling our money out. I'm not sure how buying these DVDs is going to prove that we're acting like babies. Aren't we doing exactly what he wants us to do? Can you think of a better way that we can help George out with his little science experiment over which version is preferred?

And third, and most importantly, you're a dick! You call us hypocritical, yet you're the one here consistently whining, which is what you're complaining that we're doing. Why the hell are you here in the first place? What are you trying to prove? I'd love to know. And if you choose to respond, you'd better keep a civil tongue, you prat. If you've actually come with some purpose and a legitimate opinion, then I will be forced to respect it. But if you're just here to whine and complain, like you seem to think is all we do, then allow me to show you the door!

You call me a "dick" and then tell me that I'd better keep a civil tongue? I guess hypocracy runs deeper than I thought in here. I've been here many, many times, but I never registered. I just like reading what folks were saying about not having the OOT. I came back after the announcement just too see if folks could still be pissed off and whaddaya know? You're still pissed. I get flamed for suggesting you give your SE DVD's to charity instead of mailing them to GL in a fanboy huff..... here's a newsflash folks.... GL doesn't open the mail at the Ranch.

Actually, please mail you SE discs back and then start another petition when you want the OOT on Hi-Def or Blu-ray...... see how far that petition gets you. Grow up.

I agree with Jenny. Civility is what got us this far. I believe it's why this board in particular was noticed for it's efforts and mentioned specifically in an interview. This board is different than most in that it's members were clear in their desires and civil in their approach. They came up with an alternate plan, a way to deal with not having the originals. They didn't post whine after whine, saying they were owed something or had any kind of rights to the originals. They asked politely, in a show of strength, a measure of their numbers.

I'll send mine back alright, but I'll do it politely. In September, I'll have what I came for.

This is a great idea. I think disabling the discs is kind of unnecessary and takes away the civility aspect. But there's no way getting some discs back in the mail is going to prevent LFL from releasing this in future if it's successful - they're not doing it as a favor, they know there's money to be made. You can even write in your note "I look forward to buying the blu-ray edition, but would prefer if it is available without the SSE."

To the troll, JediRandy...

why don't you go tell George to send free DVD's to all the charities? He has all the money and all the extra '04 DVD's to give away, so go bother him. And maybe you should find out what the real meaning of "fanboy" is before you start talking out of your ass. (too late)

To everyone else...

The best way to do this is to do a mass mailing. One big box full of DVD's. No letter. That is straight and to the point. If there is to be a letter, the only thing it should contain is the quote from Lucas saying, "this is not to appease the fans, and this will proove what version they want," or whatever it said.

We should start a collection. Then send them FedEx priorty.

Part of me says, "Mail them back."
Then the cheapskate in me replies, "How much is that going to cost? Donate them and see if you can get money back as a chartiable donation. The library could be a good place."
Then another voice asks, "Can you get that little amount of money back?"
A 4th voice chimes in, "I don't know, you'll have to ask someone else."
Finally, a last voice adds, "How many of us are there in here?"

Wow, who knew suggesting sending the SE discs to charity would get your fanboy panties all in a bunch? Go ahead, mail them to LFL..... apparently your immaturity knows no bounds. Lord knows some of you need something to complain about.

It doesn't mater how many versions we buy (one for our selves, the other for charity) because down in the Lucas Ltd. accounting department, it is all sales numbers.

Lucas doesn't care how many we buy. Hell, he would prefer that we all buy 52 sets each. But by sending the disks back (unharmed and sans scratches) our point will be made. They can't use send back disks anyway. The restocking fees, the maticulous cleaning and repackaging. They'll probably just give them away to charity anyway because they can't use them.

It's win- freakin -win baby.

Of course you know what will happen then--they'll realise 'oh, we tried to save them money by packaging them together but i guess they want seperate releases, thats fine by us.' Then the next release, ie Blu-Ray, we have a huge six-film box set with all the goodies, plus another seperate boxset we have to buy for the original editions, and I'm sure idiots will still be buying "fullscreen" releases by then so there may be as many as four different box sets released at one time. Ugh. Definitly not looking forward to that.

Do you even read the posts that surround your own? I have not noticed a single reply that has anybody's "panties all in a bunch" because of your donate the discs to charity idea. It's your volatile and rude manner that's getting on people's nerves. To steal cliches, you might find that you'll attract a lot more flies with honey rather than vinegar, so if you actually have any intelligent ideas to share with us in the future, keep that in mind.

Scratching a DVD or burning it, or running a sharpie across it and sending it back to LFL all because of Greedo shooting first and a new ewok song, kinda sounds like some of you have your panties in a bunch. Throw in the fact that your proverbial panties have been in a wad for years over not having the OOT on DVD and they're STILL in a wad after the announcement that you'll finally have your precious discs... and you've got some folks whose panties seem to be permanently bunched. Sorry to be so blunt.

Oh, and as for you not noticing a single reply that has anyone's panties in a bunch... the quote: And third, and most importantly, you're a dick! might apply. But that's your call.

Less-than-fortunate kids are able to enjoy a movie without whining and moaning about it on the internet for years.

Once again, you prove your lack of literacy skills. I said that no one has his/her "panties in a bunch" over your charity idea, which is what you claimed. And I quote: "Wow, who knew suggesting sending the SE discs to charity would get your fanboy panties all in a bunch?" And I'm so terribly sorry if my earlier remark to you left enough scars that you have to keep bringing it up. But if you're going to start flinging insults, you should be prepared to weather them yourself. But why should I try explaining rational logic to a troll? I'm sure it's all lost on you.

Personally, I think the idea of donating the discs to charity is just dumb. Poor people don't have DVD players. They're poor. They might have a Betamax machine hooked up to their black and white TV, but a DVD player? The food stamps are supposed to be for food. Second, the idea in sending them back is to show Lucas which version the fans want, as per his comment. If we send them to charity, it doesn't send any message, really. That and if we don't like that version, why would we give it to someone else, underpriviledged or not? Would be better to donate the original versions if we donate any at all. That just fits better with our take on things.

Personally, I'm not sure if I'll do anything with the SE disks. I doubt I'd watch them but the idea of sending them anywhere is starting to lose it's luster. Maybe a petition is better than a mass sendback. Less effort on my part, just as good. A mass sendback would only work if enough of us do it and somehow the media gets wind of it. So, ultimately it sounds like a waste of time.

So mine will probably languish in the box just like many of the bonus discs for some of my other DVDs. Content I might watch once and then never again. In this case, just plain never.

Childrens hospitals, after school programs, libraries.... etc. They might have access to a DVD player. Nice try though.

While I did get a slight chuckle out of that, it might be going a bit too far to say that about poor people. Besides, DVD players are pretty cheap, nowadays. Some of the lower end ones can cost about as much as a more expensive DVD. Besides, what that Randy guy is referring to is donating them to charities, like the Boys and Girls Club, organizations that underprivilaged kids can go to, where they would have DVD players and other forms of entertainment that kids' families may not be able to afford.

EDIT: Wow. Apparently Randy and I had the same idea at the same time. Kinda creepy, but life is like that.
