What are you going to do with your SE discs?

Once we get the official O-OT release, we're all going to have a set of the SE movies. For some of us, it'll be the first and only copy of the 2004 editions that we have. For others, it may be the second (or even third?!?) copy. Regardless of whether or not you already own the 2004 edition, what will you be doing with your SE discs? I had a few ideas.

1. Use them as Star Wars-themed coasters.

2. Turn them upside down and use them as shiny coasters.

3. Watch them once, because you've never seen the 2004 edition before, then put them on eBay. (My choice.)

4. Use for target practice, hoping to one day be as precise as Imperial stormtroopers.

5. Donate them to a worthy cause, such as a homeless shelter or a library. Assuming they'd take it.

6. Give to a friend/relative with a DVD player and little taste.

7. Hold onto them for the inevitable DVD edition preservation projects that will be underway in ten or twenty years.

8. Mail them back to George Lucas. Let him know which version the fans really do prefer.

Mailing them back might not be a bad idea, and if respectfully done may open a few eyes.

The only downside is that someone will probably take it way too far and spread anthrax on them or something.

I'd gladly sell off my original '04 set if not for the supercool bonus disc.

That's what I'm doing. I want them to know how I feel and I also don't want them in the house. Making my own covers also. Just the original one sheet artwork.

Like Anchorhead, I'm popping out the "bonus" discs and putting them in my own cases -- you know the artwork is probably going to be the same crap as on the boxed versions anyway. Then the offending discs and packaging will be stored away out of sight just incase I ever need to sell the whole shebang for a future upgrade.
I just made some modifications to the artwork I had previously done for my LD versions; original movie poster art all personally scanned (no crappy low res JPEGs) including a REVENGE of The Jedi cover! And alternate poster art for the inserts. I just hope the discs themselves don't have crummy looking art printed on them.

Render them un-usable (so they can't be resold) then mail them back to George.

Excellent idea! I had forgotten, but I did the same thing when I sent in my faulty Back to the Future Parts II and III DVDs, so they couldn't re-sell them.

If anyone wants to send them back to Lucasfilm, do that too!

I love the idea of sending them back to the ranch (unusable of course) and saying that the "bonus disk" is all that we wanted.

Man, that is great idea. Can we get some mailing address here. Where should we all send these junk disks?

These ideas have previously been explored in this thread. Given what George says here, I think the mail-back idea is a really good one.

I'm tempted to do the same thing myself.

Now all we need as an address. I suggest sending them to the ranch. I say that because I think that is where they will get the most noticed. I don't think that sending them back to the distributer (FOX, maybe) because then it just sits in the werehouse or something. The closer we can get the disks to Lucas the better.

Now...anyone gotta mailing address that isn't the address for the "fan club?"

Nice! I'm totally doing this. Who else is in? Let's make a list.

Count me in!

It's not like I don't already have a copy of the 2004 DVDs anyway. But I certainly don't need two.
This is a sweet idea. If Lucas is looking at this release to see what the demand for the OOT really is, this will definatley get the message across!

My stance on revising fan edits.

I have 4 friends who I have talked to already who told me they are doing it. They don't follow the SW gossip on the internet like me, and were all shocked when they found out they have to buy the 2004 SE with the O-OT. My one friend who doesn't bash the PT or even follows what Lucas says about anything said, "What is happening to Lucas, I used to really like this guy, it seems he is really milking us now."

I told him log on to www.originaltrilogy.com, then you can see what we have been fighting for.

This is great. If we can get enough people to join in it will make a news story and then others will follow suit. It's a pretty clear message about what we want and don't want.

It may cost me more to mail them from Canada, but I'm in.

It really seems that no matter what GL does, he's going to upset people.

The OOT DVD's are being released and there's still bitterness. Why? There they are. Watch them and love 'em and enjoy.

But to mail the old ones back? For what? What will it do? You got what you've been fighting for, but you're still going to complain. That'll really work next time you guys want LFL to listen to the "fans". The bitterness and juvenile behavior when it comes to these movies is astounding.

I wouldn't have even considered breaking up the set and sending the discs back if it wasn't for Lucas' arrogant comments about 'we'll see which versions the people like best'.

How about donating them to a library or a school or somewhere where some kids who can't afford a 4 Disc DVD set can get them or watch them for free? After school programs, Boys and Girls Clubs, children's hospitals.... salvation army, goodwill stores.... the list goes on and on. Maybe you know someone with a kid who hasn't seen the movies...

or you can mail them back to LFL... that little chuckle you get when you mail the box will really be worth it in the long run.
