Corruption, that'd only occur in a proper DVD if you scratch the surface. We're not talking about DVD-R, where the dye supposedly shifts over time. We're talking about pressed ones. Unscratched, these should last longer than I will. It's less a discussion about the quality of the medium, and more self-responsibility I should think.

I totally understand what you mean about DVD being less desirable or whatever, but what I'm getting at is that VHS and DVD become obsolete for different reasons. VHS *should* be obsolete. It's crap. DVD sure isn't HD, but it's more than enough for a lot of people, and the store-bought discs should last a very long time.
