Alright, so I get home safely from college after an exhausting day of packing, cleaning, loading up the car, driving two and a half hours, and unloading the car to pop in Return of the Jedi on my '04 set. It was the only one I hadn't watched from my last marathon viewing, so I wanted to finish up. And I've had these discs for a year and a half, and I've watched them a fair number of times, but it was like I'd never seen them before! I wasn't even looking, and I saw garbage mattes all over the place! In the space battle, even in the speeder bike chase, which, for the past 11 years, on the '95 set and the '97 set has always looked perfect to me. I've never, ever noticed them before! Even on the '04 set, the only time I ever saw garbage mattes was in the TIE chase in Star Wars. Now, when I say in other threads that I want the matte lines and garbage mattes to be retained, let me make myself clear: I don't want them removed. I want them as visible as they originally were in theatres or in other original version releases. I've never seen them before, and I know at least one person here has said that his dad never noticed them in theatres. The garbage mattes are supposed to be there, but they've always been (except in maybe a few cases) nearly imperceptible. I don't know what the hell is wrong with these DVDs that suddenly make them so apparent. So I would like them (the garbage mattes, the matte lines, in the few times they are visible, are fine) to be not quite as visible, but I'm worried that that would cause them to go in and tinker... digitally remove them, paint over, stuff of that nature. But I find it very strange that they're suddenly popping up now when I've never noticed them before, even on this set.

As long as I'm here, let me just say that, even though I prepared myself for it, my heart still skipped a beat when suddenly Hayden appeared next to Ben and Yoda. It took me by surprise. And his second appearance isn't that bad (I mean, when it cuts to Luke and then cuts back to the ghosts), but his first... He just has this creepy, "Whoah, what the hell am I doing here?" look (which is precisely what we're thinking). But he's just looking around, his head's wandering around all over the place. It's just weird. I finally pinned down what's so weird about that shot, so I just decided to go ahead and write it here.
