This is why us nerds (and I include myself in that nerd list) get a bad name, and frankly I just don't understand it. Can you just wait and see? If it sucks they you can complain, I however don't think it is going to suck, it may not be perfect but it will be better then we have ever had. The reason why I think this, and I don't know any more then the rest of you, is because that would be a horrible mistake if they looked like crap. LF would get so much flack that it would just be dumb. They are usually too smart to do stuff like that, reversed soundtrack excluded, and I will always believe that that was a horrible mistake that they were too embarrass to admit.
Secondly even if it was the greatest release ever I believe that some people would still bitch and complain. I think if there had never been SE many of those same people would be bitching and complaining that they need to clean up the mat lines and all the rest. Where is my SE! George Lucas give me my SE like all these other directors do. At this point I have decided that they are not rational complaints so why even bother to listen. Who complains about something that they have never even seen like it is a fact?
One of the things that bothers me the most is the complete lack of respect for Lucas, the vitriol that is spewed at times here is really hard to take. When I was young and my parents were fighting and finally divorced, Lucas gave me something that I could escape to during all that. Now in hindsight at 33 I can say how grateful I am that I had those stories in my life, and that they were so positive. Look at what many kids have today, some of the music and games are sending terrible message that will not really help these kids in the real world. The movies introduced me to Classical music at a very young age something that I might not have been interested in but because of Williams’s soundtracks I grew to love many classical composers. Think of all the movies, games, books, general fun that came for GL creativity for all of us to enjoy. The figures were such a part of my early childhood and I am sure many of yours. Saving up my allowance every two weeks and then going to Toy R Us was the greatest thrill as a child. Remember searching through rows of figures. Remember the first time seeing Empire Strikes Back? Remember Indiana Jones? All of that was because of only George Lucas.
In a sense George Lucas, and Steven Spealburg were like the Beatles of our generation, and like the Beatles they did it to make money, and I can't hold it agents them. The Beatles were not perfact but do people hate John Lennon because of Yoko, well I guess some assholes did, and one truly giant one I can think of. Anyway I'm sure I will get to enjoy Star Wars with my children and there children to come. Hopefully when I am gone some future generation of mine will get some of my hand me down figures or some object and when they watch the movies they will still connect with me in some way. Your Great-Great Grand father used to play with these toys, he loved these movies and they will say, you mean he actually played with these with his hands? He watched the movies on a screen, but that’s another story. Anyway that is pretty cool and George Lucas is responsible for that.
I know we all were disappointed with the prequels and with the fact that he wouldn't release the movies like we wanted them and that is understandable, but I don't understand hating someone who has been so involved indirectly with all of our lives. Even now we all are enjoying talking, debating, recreating (which his company has let us do) these films. I can't bash him, sorry the guy is great.
I will always remember how sucky that time in my life was but I will also always remember how great it was falling asleep to my soundtrack album, or movie dialogue tape that I copied from my friends album. Playing with my figures, looking at the pictures at my calendars. Trying to figure out what was happening in the previews for Empire. Those were great times man.
All I ever have to say to or about George Lucas is Thanks.
PS, I have to defend this site most of us truly love the movies are grateful to George, and are thrilled that the originals are finally being released. Just like GL has made some mistakes and that shouldn't spoil all that he has accomplished, some bad apples here shouldn't spoil most of the good people here.
