It looks to me from reading the various postings around the net that what we're going to see is in fact the video masters that the definitive editions were struck from. There's no reason at all that LFL would spend the money and manpower to restore them any further, as Lucas obviously feels that they are mere curiosities which some fans would like to have legally. What this DOES seem to mean, is that something like OCPMovie's classic editions (just, oh, I don't know, for example

) would benefit from better source material for the inserts (masters straight to MPEG2, not having been converted to LD format, recaptured, and then encoded). I have a feeling this site and a number of the projects are still going to be valid come September after all.
