P.S. Blaksvn, I just saw a few pictures of your little girl, she's lovely.

Thanks! She a sweetheart!

As for the BR DVD's....

I'll announce it like all the other torrents I do BUT there will be a catch; if your on the PIF chain you'll NEED to help seed the DVD's with me , I will also make them available via snail mail for trades (grocery store gift cards from Krogers would be sweet!) & donations for those that do not have broadband.

DOH! I forgot to say the MBJ should have the 1080i to DVD files so I hope to hear from him soon

Uh would you like the XviD version I did of the 1080i HDTV broadcast for inclusion to the set? it's 1024x426 resolution, 4500kbps totalling just under 3.9gb with 256kbps mp3 audio. It's for those whose PCs aren't up to the task of being able to play the HD files natively and looks amazing, much better than any DVD encode played on a PC:

BTW the 3:2 pulldown on the 1080i HD broadcast can be undone with a single manual setting, no need to use automatic pulldown removal (it never works 100% anyway) or splice the film up into several pieces each with it's own manual pulldown removal settings like an NTSC LD capture.

dear god yes, please Citizen, torrent this somewhere PLEASE! I was fairly interested in the HD to DVD conversion of this broadcast, but your XviD would be MUCH better quality. Would love to get hold of this, either torrent or trade (I'm in the UK)

Citizen - I assume they're JPEG compression artefacts visible in those shots, not from the XviD encoding?

Guidelines for post content and general behaviour: read announcement here

I wish I had the outgoing bandwidth to seed such a torrent, it would take a week+ to seed this one on my standard (unreliable) ADSL connection!
But I can send a couple out with the intention the receivers PIF.

Yes the jpegs don't do any justice to the original images lifted from the XviD:

WOW! I never knew the film could be that much better than the dvd. Even the jpegs are far beyond light years ahead of the current release. I'm amazed, I always thought the film had a bit of a murky look to it, I knew the current dvd transfer was bad but I never though it was 100% responsible for the muddied look. How the hell does the existing dvd look so bad, did they transfer it from vhs?

pupil, disc on it's way to you on monday

Knightmessenger, the Blade Runner Directors Cut DVD was one of the first DVDs ever produced, some 9 years ago now, technology has moved far beyond the early transfer days so even home-produced DVDs from the HDTV broadcast can make the original DVD look like it was sourced from VHS. But the grainlessness of the HDTV broadcast is partly due to some temporal smoothing (blurring from one frame to the next very slightly) which results in a little motion smearing here and there, a pet peeve of mine but it's the best source we have to date.

awesome, thanks Citizen!

Rikter: Let me know if you get it and want help seeding it somewhere, or if I should upload it somewhere myself (Demonoid is really the only place I could upload it, probs better to get it on MySpleen, but I haven't got uploader privileges there).

Also, first person to message me gets a PIF from me as soon as I've got it off Citizen.

DEAR LORD! This XviD version of Blade Runner Citizen sent me is amazing! The difference between it and the commercial DVD from the late 90's is night and day. So much less dirt and dancing pixelation, much better beautiful colours and amazing detail.

Simply stunning, thanks so much Citizen!

Rikter: If you're gonna torrent it somewhere, let me know and I'll help seed it. I'm looking forward to your full set of extras to go with this as well

Citizen, you swear blind by encoding things to XviD (I have noticed) and I don't blame you after seeing this, comparing the quality of the XviD to the PAL DVD of the same HD footage you sent me really shows the difference. I watch films on my 19' CRT Monitor (yeah I'm poor, I'm saving up for a sexy big widescreen monitor though) so can really see the difference, I can see how it would be really evident when you watch this via a projector like you've mentioned.

Sorry, to drag this off topic btw, but at least we're still talking about Blade Runner

Nope, never got a copy so no torrent from me

ANYWAY, we should move all discussion of the Citizens XVID version into a new thread of it's own or into the HDTV Blade Runner Thread

Great news on Blade runner folks! read more about it here: http://www.digitalbits.com/#mytwocents

This coming September, there will be a new limited DVD release (HD-DVD & Blu-ray Disc are also planned) of the restored 1992 Director's Cut (you know... the one that isn't really a director's cut). This will be available for just four months. We believe this is basically the 2-disc release that Warner had originally planned to bow LAST year.

Then next year, just in time for the film's 25th anniversary, Ridley Scott's ultimate Blade Runner: The Final Cut will hit theaters for a limited run. This will be a REAL director's cut, with restored scenes and more - all the stuff that Ridley's always wanted to do with the film but hasn't really been given the chance to do before. That will be followed later in the year by an Ultimate Blade Runner DVD release. You can expect a multi-disc box set (again, likely with a simultaneous HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc release) that will contain at least four different versions of the film... ALL in full anamorphic widescreen, we might add. You'll get the film's original U.S. theatrical cut, you'll get the expanded international theatrical cut, you'll get the 1992 Director's Cut and you'll get the new Final Cut as well. Now... we realize at this point, you may have questions. Keep in mind, there's a TON of additional material that's going to be included in this set that hasn't been announced and can't be talked about yet - all-new material that you've never seen before. The set is pretty early in the planning and production stage, so it's way too early to talk details, but trust us... some very cool stuff is in the works. These extras will likely be different from the September '06 release, so if you buy both you'll at least be getting your money's worth.

longtime Ridley Scott DVD producer Charles de Lauzirika and his team are involved in project, and have already been working on the set for a while now. Lauzirika, as you may know, was the producer responsible for Fox's 9-disc, massively comprehensive Alien Quadrilogy box set, as well as the multi-disc special editions of Scott's Gladiator (from DreamWorks), Black Hawk Down (from Sony) and Kingdom of Heaven (recently available from Fox), among others. You should also know that Lauzirika and his team are big fans of Blade Runner themselves. Rest assured that they know what you guys all want to see on this release, and they're working very hard to make it as good as it can be. Trust us when we say that this project is in EXACTLY the right hands.
