"When you guys heard the news...did anybody else feel "sad" or weird....like they knew it was never going to happen and accepted it and now that we can have it....we dont want it? "

Considering how much more work ANH was going to need, it felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders - but I'm not getting rid of my source files yet.

"if they include the Star Wars commentary created for the Classic Edition."

That's a good idea. I think it's a safe bet these new ones won't have one.

"Anyway, shit - clearly they DID read this forum. They're stealing our fucking ideas! Original crawl and now this:"

Actually, that'll be good ammunition at TF.n for all the dudes who keep insisting that Han and Greedo shot together because the "official DVDs" say so (and even more so to the dingbats who say that "Han Shot First" makes no sense because in the OT, Greedo never even shot. )

"I really hope the transfer has been done properly, with no crushed blacks or unnatural colour boosting."

Like I said, there's a thousand ways to screw it up. We'll see if LFL learned from their first release.

"I'm not saying it wasn't a contributing factor, it more than likely most DEFINITELY was, but LFL Marketing has been itching to put these on DVD since the format first showed up. No joke. Jim Ward has been pushing for it for awhile now. He finally got it. This was probably going to happen sooner or later--but that IS where you come in. It happened sooner, a LOT sooner than anyone thought, and a lot of that has to do with the demand and this place putting in the work.

but it's not the ONLY reason. Economics is playing the biggest role, let's be real. LFL wants something for the 4th quarter to increase numbers. What better than a double-dip of the 2004's (A triple dip, actually) with the originals being a special feature? C'mon."

For once, I am entirely in agreement with The Bizzle. I'm sure LFL has its own share of people who are doing this for love of the O-OT, and well as those who are in it for the money as well.

There's many reasons to explain why this is happening, and most of them are most likely true. Regardless, it's happening.

"I don't normally curse in the forums but...... but"

I've done it once, I believe.

"Some of the worst official dvd releases out there for movies have simply been laser masters dumped onto dvd with no care involved. And that's exactly what we'll be getting from the company that at one time was at the forefront of producing quality presentations."

I've worried about this scenario as well. Lucas can't really win with this release, so it would be easy for him to release a mediocre version under the guise of "giving the fans what they want". Still, at the very least, it gives us the best source material we could ask for for future fan edits.

"there is NO reason to use cleaned up footage from the 2004 version"

No, but then comes the debate - should it be cleaned up at all? Or at the very least, cleaned up better than was done with the '04 DVDs (color correction, etc.)

[EDIT] Ran across this at the Basher's Sanctuary at TF.n: "And anyone else notice that the press release says 'Star Wars' and not 'A New Hope'

The DVDs are listed as 'attractively priced'

I have a bad feeling about this.

FANS: Let's just say we'd like to avoid any special editions.

LUCAS: Well, that's the trick, isn't it? And it's going to cost you
something extra. $999.99 in advance.
