My goal for these covers was to go with the Vintage Kenner style packaging as a basis for the design, not to duplicate the entire thing. If I had a better (HIRES) image of this scene from the OT then I would use it. Again, I never stated every aspect would be from the Original Theatrical Editions or era when they were released.
And it wouldn't have been called "A New Hope" in large letter even in 1983, which is what (from the red font) I think you're going for. If they called it "A New Hope" it would have been in a small and apologetic way.

The image of Leia on the back also sets off warning signals ... I don't think that pic (or anything similar) was part of any licensing campaign in 77, and certainly the greens wouldn't have been as Photoshop bright if it was. They would have used bun hair Leia, probably from the scene with Tarkin.

Believe me I wasn't too sure about that one either. But there were 2 problems. I wanted to go with that look on the spine for the rest of the series which would include non-film entries (Clone Wars, Ewoks, etc.) so the spine layout would look odd unless I included that on ALL of the covers. And since I included A NEW HOPE on the front it had to be on the spine. I wanted to go with the "A New Hope" font for the spine title because it was bold and stood out. Granted the other titles (Empire, ATOC, ROTS) look better using that font, so I had to compromise with ANH.
I apologize if I gave the wrong impression that these were going to be strictly designed from the 1977-1983 era. That was never my intent. I just wanted to give it that old Kenner touch for the layout and the rest would be designed from a today perspective. I'm one of those few Original Star Wars fans that enjoys both the OT and the Special Editions, so maybe it's my demented twisted mind that gets in the way. By original SW fan, I mean I grew up on Star Wars seeing all of them in the theater when they were originally released and had a many Star Wars toy themed Christmas when I was a youngin'. Perhaps this is the wrong venue for my take on these?

Besides, honestly, if you're that dead set against the style of his cover - make your own. Sure, constructive criticism is good, but when you're telling someone to change the whole idea behind their cover as you were, OCP, that's kind of like a kick in the nuts to the designer. Not to mention phrases like "Use an original trilogy image there, please" make it seem like you think he's designing the cover specifically for you. He doesn't even have to release it when he's done if he doesn't want to - he's making it for himself, and being kind enough to make it available to those who want it afterwards. Finally, things like these complaints are easily altered in Photoshop if you so choose.
Basically what I'm trying to say is, don't act like he's the one doing it wrong, when all he is is doing it his way. Let him do it his way, and if you don't like it, change it for yourself or just don't download it.
Fair enough?
And Dayv - you know that avatar choices are limited, so don't make it out to be a personal insult if someone uses one you designed and uploaded - ask them kindly. I know I got chewed out twice by Shimraa for this, and if he hadn't had a "you should have known it was mine" attitude about it, I wouldn't have been bothered by his request at all.
I'm sorry if I'm offending anyone here - I'm just trying to get people to be less aggressive towards new members, and more welcoming.

I think it’s in bad form to come down so hard on a CUSTOM cover just because it doesn't fit into any preconceived ideas of what Star Wars was, is and never will be. That and DarthV never said it was for the OT, I read it as “vintage-style” but I never took that to mean “CLASSIC” OT.

Which is a simple One Time Pad encypted message that says: "If you're going to type everything backwards, why don't we take it one step farther and encrypt everything?"
If you don't believe me or are just curious, PM me and I'll send you the program and/or source code I wrote to implement a One Time Pad algorithm. Yeah, I'm a geek. I had the idea to write the program after reading Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon. Great book.

Sounds good. Hopefully LFL will get these overs right but they have a bad dvd cover track record. O well if they(LFL) make shitty covers I'm sure someone here will make nice ones for us to use

*cough Coov cough j/k * LFL actually used the original poster art for the cover for Tucker: The Man and His Dream for the DVD. I guess alot of people forget it's a LFL film though. The DVD is excellent too.
