Heard the rumor on another forum and all I have to say is THANK GOD it's official now. I can not express how happy I am with words. In the article it states that "This release will only be available for a limited time: from September 12th to December 31st."

This will end in blood.

Edit: Oh I also can't wait to see what's going to be on the special features!
But I was going to go to tosche station to pick up some power converters!

Well, this is good news indeed.

However...(there's always one)...don't tell me that there won't be some changes to it!

Now the question is... which version will it be? loks like they said the original, original

the original theatricals or the ones from the defentive, or other sets???

what do you think???

Remember, Highlander, you’ve both still got your full measure of life. Use it well, and your future will be glorious.

On closer examination, it's two disc sets with the 2004 DVD edition and the originals with 2.0 Surround.

Hmm...maybe this is the shit after all.

Hmm.

My guess...
Original pre-ANH crawl (this was pretty much confirmed)
Original stereo soundtrack

wish list....
Original Mono soundtrack
Isolated score
Option to have ANH crawl

Edited to add: Thanks for the fun ride guys.... we did it!!! And with that, I'm outta here

Only available for 4 months? Only $1999.95 per box set...

Anyone buying this limited release crap? Anyone going to take a chance that it's not true?
It sounds a bit like other "Limited Editions" of this sort. It's limited as a 2 disc set of the 2004/OT but will probably be widely available later as a 1 disc OT only.

Sigh, so now we can all retire, unsubscribe and find a new hobby. If this is really real, what does it mean for stuff like the X0 Project?

One caveat: "We returned to the Lucasfilm Archives to search exhaustively for source material that could be presented on DVD."- Jim Ward

Sounds a bit like they are rebuilding this from pieces, that can't be good.

Don't worry M. That twat Ward spins hyperbole like Spidey spins his web. This "archive" speech is hauled out of mothballs everytime a new project comes out, it's just to get the fanboys hard.

I'm remaining cautious. I'll definately buy RotJ as long as it is watchable on HD 16:9.

I knew this would happen eventually, I just didn't expect it so soon. These sorts of manipulative business practices employed by so many modern companies have become very commonplace. I posted a theory about this roughly 6 months ago detailing my suspicions, and lo and behold, it has manifested itself. Lucas has known all along what people want, and has simply been stringing the fans along. Anyway, I'm just glad that it's now official. Don't be too shocked when the movies are rererererereleased onto HD-DVD within 3 years.

My wish list to make it perfect.

All original release soundtrack versions, as appropriate for each movie.
Dolby 6 Track (as Dolby Digital 4.1, or 5.1 as appropriate),
Dolby Stereo (as Dolby 2.0 surround)---This is being included,
Mono (as Dolby Digital 1.0)
(These were all different in some details, such as the voice for Aunt Beru being supplied by a different actress. I think these may have had differences in The Empire Strikes Back as well.)

Release on Blu-ray.

Well...the discs that have the originals on them are 2.0, according to the press release. I doubt they will be exactly as they appeared in 77/80/83.

But if the transfer is decent, hell, pretty good source to base a fan preservation off of, no?

You are George Lucas.
You are making a Star Wars release you swore didn't exist, couldn't exists, and over your dead body would never be seen again...
You are releasing it ONE YEAR before the 30th Anniversary.
It is the cusp of kick ass HD/BluRay DVD's that are star-aligned with everything your THX company stands for.

Do you:

A) Work hard digging through the archives like a truffle pig, spend a fortune in time and man power reassembling elements, make a DVD-only release for 4 months and then bury it knowing you did right by the fan community.

=or=

B) Make a hi definition transfer, copy it to standard definition DVDs. Jack the price up by bundling it with the '04 DVDs (that everyone already owns). Shove it out the door to all the fanboys. THEN re-release it as part of a 30th Anniversary Uber-HiRay-BluDefinition-HologramArt-GoldLeafEncrusted-BreakYourBookCase Boxset (with one additional DVD of extras)?

What do you do?

I grab my giant belly and chortle at the countless fans who claim to have been kicked in the nuts but contiune to plunk down those hard earned Burger King bucks on Star Wars, then I re-release them theatrically as they were for the first time in 30 years.

And then I watch the money roll in and buy me some sweet ass Rodian hookers.

I, for one, think this is going to be something special. This is the first time ever that Star Wars has been officially released without the "Episode IV" tag.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Now if it only has the Dolby Surround and Mono options, as well as the 35mm/70mm audio mixes for Empire. If not, I think that we might still have somewhere to go with preservations... But I'm happy to see this finally. Assuming that it doesn't have something strange in it (new changes or something)

I hope it's a good transfer. The bad restoration wasn't Lowry's fault - they weren't allowed to their job by Lucas and ILM.

That said, fuck, I'm out of a job.

Chances are that the colour will still be up the shit tho.

I kinda suspect the transfer's gonna be meh. I bet it's gonna be different from the 2004 version though, which is nice.

But if theses DVDs turn out to be shit, then we'll always still have yours.

They are mine. They've taken them and they're releasing them officially.

There, I admit it. If I'd known I would have worked harder on making the LD portions not look like shit.

EDIT: And for no reason, Lucas is throwing in a cut of The Thief and the Cobbler which he doesn't even own, just to fuck with me.

After the announcement last week about Rutland Weekend Television, anything is possible.
