Request: 'American Psycho' - an extended cut

Hey guys, I’m new to the forum but I thought I’d run a suggestion by you all. I’m a huge fan of American Psycho, and Bret Easton Ellis, and would love to see the excellent deleted scenes added back into the film. The night club scenes in particular are hilarious, and are key to explaining why Price dissapears for the second half of the film. Sadly I currently have the equipment needed or the knowhow, is anyone else as into the film as I am and into making an extended cut…?

Also, has anyone seen the workprint that is floating around? I’ve always been curious to know if it’s any different from the theatrical cut, save having no music.

Thanks guys, I think what the lot of you are doing here preserving films is incredible - keep up the good work!

They released an unrated version, yeah, but it also included more deleted scenes in the supplemental section that weren't in the flick. I think he's talking about putting that stuff back in.

Do I have the workprint? Yes. Have I watched it? No. The running time of the workprint I have, though, is 3mins longer than the running time on IMDb.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

I'm in the UK, so the orig DVD that came out years ago had the extended sex scene and the deleted scenes - you guys in NA just caught up on this one with the DVD that came out last summer.;-)

Yeh - I was meaning add the deleted scenes that are on there as extras back into the film, they're all from the book and do add to the story. A couple of them would require some audio work (ie. adding a music track over a night club scene where there's no backing music) If anyone was wanting to do this I could help by saying where the scenes would fit in according to the book and which track to addd into the nightclub scene (the club scenes were a take off of the movie Bright Lights Big City - so it would have almost certainly been the Prince song from that soundtrack used in the AP scene).

I heard the run time was slightly more for the AP workprint, but I wondered if it was just due to PAL/NTSC speed up or actually had more footage. I know the film so well, literally line for line for the most part, I'd be able to figure out any differences if I had a copy. Not sure if it was ever torrented though...

Is it possible your workprint is the "unrated version" of the film?

I would be interested in doing assuming no one else it, right now I'm busy with another project, and life in general, but could you give me a list of songs that perhaps would have been intended for those scenes?

No, it's the workprint. But I've heard that it doesn't differ much from the unrated version, aside from the lack of score.

Awesome! The track would be Good Love by Prince for the nightclub scene. I'll take another look at the clips and figure out exactly where they'd best fit into the film, I remember the limo scene actually comes at the very start inbetween the dinner and the club scene where New Order's True Faith is playing - so staggers the credits slightly. If I remember right the 2 delete scenes in a club are a seperate club scene to the first one and the second one. I'll rewatch this week and figure it out according to the book. Thanks for taking it on!

I've tried to find info on the AP workprint but can't find anyone who owns it, knows the film well, and has watched both. Eventually I'll track down a copy and figure out what the deal is with the workprint. I've heard the quality isn't so hot either.

charliesheen, email me your mailing address at reverendbeastly AT gmail DOT com and I'll send you out a copy. It'll be good to have a definitive answer on what's different in the workprint floating around once and for all.

Got the workprint DVD in the mail today and just watched it - many thanks again! I can confirm that there are loads of slightly extended scenes in the workprint, about every 4th scene has an extra couple of lines of dialogue, and a lot of the montages and bridge scenes of New York etc. inbetween scenes are much longer. It's a shame the quality isn't great so the footage could be instered back into the main film without it looking really awful, as some of the extra dialogue is great. For example the second time Detective Kimble comes to Bateman's office he starts of by saying "I actually came her to see Timothy Bryce but he's off on a leave of absense" Bateman: "Yeh he went into re-hab".

A couple of the scenes which are extras on the DVD are in this cut also - the "reciprical tip" clip when Bateman is doing Courtney and she has a spat about the sype of condom. This scene comes right after the one where Bateman tries to throttle Lewis in the restroom and Lewis thinks he's gay. Right after this Courtney scene is a montage of NYC at night, then a car driving, and it cuts to the "Never Date A Vassar Girl" limo clip (which I assumed was cut from the club scene before) then into the 2nd nightclub scene, a montage of dancing and the scene of Bryce and Bateman doing coke in the toilets.

One other short clip that's missing is right before Bateman calls Jean near the end of the film and is breaking down you see him spinning around in a revolving door three times, stumble out and bang into a guy on the street excalim something like "Peterson! See you at Fluties!" smash his briefcase off the wall repeatedly, then smack into another pedestrian. It's a pretty funny clip. I'll see about listing all the differences in the near future when I check this out again.

Now I know where 2 of the 5 deleted scenes go I'm pretty certain where to put the other 3, so if someone is into doing this project then I could tell them where the inserts are and even send them this workprint and tell them which scenes are extended to put on the DVD as deleted/extended scenes of too poor quality to go back into the film. If anyone is interested let me know.

HUGE fan of this movie. There are already SE's in various regions and i'm compiling all the extras that didn't make it onto the R1. Any way I could get a copy of this from someone?

Hey, is there a way I could get all the deleted scenes from a HD source, from somewhere? I recently found out that American Psycho has Deleted Scenes, you can see them on YouTube, but they aren’t high quality so Im here to ask if there’s a way I could download/get the scenes in HD.

Hey reelreamy, I am a subscriber to your channel and I really appreciate your edits, while I was watching them I noticed that you used the deleted scenes in HD, so I tried to search the internet and I ended up on this site and now I find that you went there too;
I just wanted to ask you how you managed to find those scenes, and if this is the right site.
