I don't know. I'm afraid it might become a niche thing.

(Come on, sean, where did the pic come from?!)

I got it from 4chan.

Did it come from a specific anime?

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I like it. It fits well with my "keep it simple, stupid" modus operandi.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

As I said, the name is fine with me because it's not about the name. I just fear that the 'cool' people who ironically are the ones that follow the crowd and such, will not buy it because it has a 'stupid name' and hence third parties who initially embraced it might shy away.

If that doesn't happen, bring on the WII!

Nintendo did ask Atari if they wanted the rights to distribute in the US.

You have to respect the fact that Nintendo had the balls to name a product Wii. Maybe the project title "Revolution" was referring to the revolutionary name..?

If they could afford the licensing.

I know for a fact that my friends and I will be calling it the Revolution still. Don't care Wii's the official name. Its the Revolution.

Believe me, you'll be calling it Wii eventually. I've never seen any game generation hang onto a preproduction title like that. No one ever put up a fuss when Nintendo stopped calling the GameCube Dolphin, but now everyone's acting surprised that Revolution wasn't going to be the actual name of the console.

Yes, but Gamecube is a better name for a game system than Dolphin.

Wii is percieved as stupid and childish by your average 18-25 year old.

Well, the majority of people on the planet aren't 18-25 year old males.

Nintendo is targeting THAT majority while Sony and Microsoft are goign after the established gamer-base. Problem is, if new gamers don't pop up as Nintendo hopes, the Wii might not be a hit among the standard target audience.

Hey look, I'm a gamer, and I've been playing them since the Megadrive. I am a hardcore Sega fan through and through, and yet, Nintendo have managed to win me over already with Wii. When Wii comes out, I will have owned my first Nintendo console ever, and here is why:

Nintendo are about the games. They are about changing the way games are played. What they are talking about is literally a revolution in gaming.

And what is Microsoft and Sony talking about? Upgrading their machines so that they have better graphics.

That's end of story for me - I've made my decision already, and two of the three aren't even out yet.

Isn't 18-25 the established gamer base that Sony and Microsoft strive for, though? I always thought Nintendo had been pushing towards a younger demographic.

Amen, Baron! That's exactly what I'm feeling about this whole thing.
