Did anyone catch VH1 Rock Honors the other night? Three of the four bands honored were awesome:

Queen
Judas Priest
KISS

Def Leppard

Also: another to add to my favorite songs list: "The Hellion/Electric Eye" by Judas Priest

Did you see Queen play on there (VH1 Rock Honors)? I'm not sure who that was that was singing for him, but.......well, basically, you're damn right Freddie is irreplaceable.

Although I'm don't really care for Godsmack, they did a damn good job with the Judas Priest songs they covered, as did the Foo Fighters with their Queen covers. It was awesome to see Queen and the Foo Fighters team up for "We Will Rock You".

No, I didn't see the VH1 thing, but I have seen Queen perform with 2 Freddie Replacements. One of them I can't remember who he was but he was pretty good. One of them was Robbie Williams and, while I must admit he has a good voice, I think he's a wanker and is nowhere near Freddie Mercury's greatness, as a performer or an artist.

But I did recently see 'We Will Rock You', a musical written by Queen and Ben Elton (who co-wrote Blackadder), and featuring all the Queen classics, and the main guy in that was an INCREDIBLE singer.

Over in another thread somebody suggested that Michael Anthony (Van Halen Bassist) should take over vocal duties and they become a 3 piece. I think that's the way to go if one of your band leaves or dies - an existing member should take over. When Ian Curtis of Joy Division died, their guitarist became the singer and New Order was born. When Peter Gabriel left Genesis, Phil Collins, formerly just the guy on drums, emerged as a vocal talent in his own right. Recruiting new singers never seems to work.

Of course, if nobody else in your band can sing, you don't really have much choice.

That whole Michael Anthony thing ain't such a bad idea, now that you mention it. Then again, I can't say I know his singing voice, but I'm sure he could do better than Sammy. Sorry, but I was never much of a Sammy Hagar fan, I've always been a Dave man.

Stuart Copeland (the drummer and founding member) has said that he would love to reform, but Sting and Andy Summers can't get along and both are doing pretty well as solo artists. Stuart does music for movies and is quite respected in that field, but I'm sure he'd rather be a rock star again.

The main causes of bands splitting up are almost always animosity between 2 or more members, or one member dying.

Sorry for the necrophillia.....(I mean necromancy).

Candle In The Wind or really anything by Elton John. His music a lot of fun just to listen to.
