Star Wars Trilogy tops IGN's "Most Wanted DVDs"

I was just over at IGN and read their "Top 25 Most Wanted DVDs" and SW topped the list!

From IGN:

1. The Star Wars Trilogy - Not to be confused with the Star Wars Episodes IV-VI set that was released in 2004, there is just about nothing on planet earth that we'd like to see more than a properly restored version of the original Star Wars trilogy, without any digital upgrades, improvements, or changes. Extras wish list: an apology by George Lucas for giving the middle finger to an entire generation of moviegoers who grew up watching the original versions of these movies. (Oh, and the Christmas Special would be nice too.)

Hell yeah....

Thousands of people use that site and will see that. Plus they made a stab at GL in an affective way. Yet another big boost toward what we've been wanting. I seriosuly can't wait for the one thing that'll make the topic explode into the mainstream public eye. It's exciting....like revolution......only kinda less important.

I'm not part of that generation being given the middle finger but I can understand how lame GL actions must be to you guys.

Hey look, a bear!

I am part of that Generation that Lucas gave the finger too and believe me, seeing this makes me feel all special inside. It is just like a revolution. We are seeing the backlash and Lucas can't keep it up for long.

And talking about "mainstream," I even heard in the Colbert Report (during Stephen's opening statements, I forgot exactly what he said) "And a Senator on Capital hill wishes ruin classic Hollywood films. But he can't ruin Star Wars. Lucas already did that."

Hells yeah.

And I agree with their number 3 movie "Song of the South." I've seen it in bootleg, and they are right. That movie desperatly needs to be released. So much historiscal signifigance is a part of that movie. Because of it, the first black man in Disney won some award, and everybody has heard the songs "Mr. Blue Bird on my Shoulder" and "Zippidy-doo dah, Zippidy-Day." What are they from? Yup, this movie. But the NAACP won't tolerate Disney to put it on DVD because "It's Racist, yo."

Not to mention the fact that Splash Mountain, Disney World's biggest attraction, is based entirely in and around that movie. I've been on that ride a handful of times, and every time I make it a point to yell out, "Where's Uncle Remus?!" as the flume goes down the drop.

How can the NAACP forbid Disney to release that movie. Isn't it Disney's decision? I wasn't aware the NAACP had that much power. Am I the only person who dislikes the NAACP but is afraid to say it outside the faceless medium?

It stands for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Obviously, it was started quite a while ago when African-Americans were lacking in basic human rights, but now that those days are, for the most part, gone, it exists almost solely to whine about perceived or non-existant racism. And, usually, to speak out against it means you're a racist. And I'm not, but I'm tired of organizations that claim that if you don't agree with them, you must not agree with their message and are, therefore, a horrible racist/sexist/unpatriotic person.

NAACP: National Association for the Advancement of Colored People - A U.S. based organization who champions the rights of African-Americans. It is ironic that if any caucasian calls an African-American "Colored" he'd be committing a faux pas about as bad as using the infamous "N" word. It is more ironic that Hispanics, Asians, Persians, Arabs, Black Cubans and Pacific Islanders aren't considered "Colored People" the way the association defines it.

The NAACP was extremely important in the civil rights movement (dated by its very name), but is searching for its relevance nowadays, mostly resorting to rabble-rousing in the school systems to make the point of continued inequality.

If anybody wants to discuss it further, please do not do so here, but move the discussion to the POLITICS THREAD in "Off Topic." We love a good argument in there.

Ok, i don't want to ignore ADigitalMan's request that we take this to the politics thread instead of banging on about it here but, just before we do that, i would like to say that, based on what Gaffer and ADM have just told me about the NAACP, I hate them. Or at least I hate them today (i.e I respect what they have done in the past to improve the lives of minority groups but these days, affirmative action and what I like to call reverse racism really piss me off).

Groups like this shit all over my dream of TRUE equality.

I agree that we shouldn't continue this line of conversation here, but, as far as the relevance of the topic goes, I think I should at least still be able to get my question answered about them and Disney.

This fansite has everything about SOTS you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask. According to the site, the NAACP has no current position on the film pro or con.

I think if there's enough backlash like this, it's bound to happen.

I like that positive attitude.

Theoretically, Fox could release ANH without Lucas's permission (unless he made them sign something as part of the prequel distribution deal) - although that might not be wise.

Remember we are the rebels and Lucas is the empire, and the Empire has ruled since 1997, and the OT SE are the deathstar.

To me this list is the beginning of the attack on the death star, and we have a ways to go, but we have found a weakness in the deathstar, mainstream public opinion. The only fans still defending Greedo shooting first is SW fanboys, and that is it.

Do not despair guys, this is going to happen because now pop culture is finished making fun of the PT, that is ancient history. Now they are focusing all their jokes on not how Lucas ruined the PT, but how Lucas ruined the OT. We can forget about the PT, but nobody likes what he did to the OT.

I don't think so, because Lucas bought back the rights to the first movie quite some time ago.

It will happen. I know it will. Lucas can't hide behind "It's my movies. My way of thinking. My edits. My versions. That's it." Because we don't want them. And in the long run it just boils down to public stance and money. When Lucas starts to look like the Dictator control freak that he really is, he is going to have to back down at some point.

Once I have those OOT DVDs, all will pretty much be forgiven. It worked that way for me and Nickelodeon (I wanted to bomb that damn place), but now me and NICK are on fine terms. Why? Because they gave me the DVD's that I wanted.

Which DVDs were they? And that reminds me. Cartoon Network's really pissing me off lately too.

I do agree with you 100%, cause all my anger towards Lucas right now is that he hasn't released this set. Alot of the prequel defenders think we are mad at the PT, but that is yesterday news now, and the PT is what it is, take it or leave it. I think that main bitching and complaining stopped after ROTS. Sure there are always going to be some fans that will say about the PT, "What if........" But I think we have all made our assessment on that trilogy, and we are not going to wake up 10 years from now and say, "Damn, those are some awesome movies that i just didn't understand when they came out."

Give us the O-OT, and I will defend Lucas like I did in the 70's/80's/early 90's: SW, ESB, and ROTJ are my three favorite movies, is this guy anything more than god? And I will forget about the PT, just like I did Howard the Duck.
