I'm not sure "truer to the book" is the thing to say, because the US edition of the book is titled "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". But I know what you're getting at -- J. K. Rowling titled it "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" for good reason (the Philosopher's Stone is the holy grail for alchemists), so the title should never have been changed in the first place.
