OT.com Hockey Playoff Pool RULES IN FIRST POST

Author
Time
Alright, so here's the deal. We'll be doing both a team-ranking pool, and a box selection pool. I was going to do them through Hockeydraft.ca, but since and I don't really like their system, I'm doing it my way. Besides, doing it myself is not only good experience, but I don't have to pay anything either.

Here's how it's going to work: Download the Box Selection Sheet or the Team Ranking Sheet from Rapidshare (sorry, I know. Make sure to go "Free") or Savefile (Box or Rank). If the pages look familiar, it's because I stole them from hockeydraft.ca. The rules are laid out on each sheet. Then e-mail it back to me, and I'll input the data.

There will be no trades at the end of each round. If your guy gets knocked out, tough luck for you!

Each day, I'll update THIS POST with the new standings and leaderboard.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask. I'll be accepting entries until Friday.

Actually, I was planning on having both. Each person will get, say, 12 forwards, 6 defencemen, 2 goalies, and one team in each conference. You'll have a chance to change your player and team selections after each round, etc.

that would be cool, but still if we do it where its jsut players, dont include the changing of players after each round, cause then you need to choose wisely when you choose your players, cause your thinking of both what players will score, and what players will go far, and its a balance, e.g. you might want to pick jagr in a second however NY might get knocked out by NJ. then your stuck. if we do it that way, we dont really need to do a draft either, cause different people can choose the same player.

Are the Blackhawks in it? Stupid question, I know. They're the Cubs of the Hockey world...

True enough. I wasn't going to do a draft, anyway, because that requires us all to be around at the same time. I was planning on doing boxes, actually, where for each position, you pick one player from each box. I mean, you'll have Jagr and Alfie and Thorton in one box, etc, so that no one can stack their team with all those players.

lol, well ottawa has one of the black hawk players, so you could say 1/21 is in.

yeah but its only fun when its a little complicated.

We could do a ranked team pool, where you rank each team, 16 being the best and 1 being the worst, and for each game they win, you score that many points. So, if for example, you have Dallas ranked 15 and Colorado ranked 4, and Dallas beats Colorado in 5 games, then you would have scored (15*4)+4=64 points for that series.

I do too, actually. Much simpler than a player-based pool. And really, if there's only going to be four of us, why bother with a draft or boxes or that?

we could open it up, and i am sure i could get more people i know.

I'm sure you could. But I'd like it if it were people from the site. I dunno, cause we're all friends. Granted, so far it's just you, me, Dayv and Mark.

well if its jsut 4 of us we should, get more people.

The more, the merrier. But at the same time, I'm really liking the team-ranking idea. It's simple, easy to handle, and just as much fun. And, being team-based rather than player-based, someone can be a part of it even if they don't really follow hockey players.

The only thing is I'm a bit confused on the rules. Are we voting or predicting?

Not sure yet. I'm going to make an executive decision as to the type of pool tomorrow night or Wednesday (once the regular season is finished), so I can get a feel for whether people would prefer a player-based or team-based pool. Right now, Shim prefers a player-based, Dayv a team-based. I'm leaning towards Dayv right now, because it's less work for me.
