DVD versions VS SW Special Edition Laserdisc 1997

Hi!

Im a LD collector and just got myselfe the 1997 PAL Star wars special edition. I was wondering if anyone know the difference between it and the dvd releases. are they as cut as the original theatrical releases?

im sorry, what i ment was, if they are equal to the original theatrical releases, i've read about the dvd releases, that they have "new" scenes and that the face of darth vader has been changed to the face of the anakin from ep3

Anything released from 1997 onward are regarded as the "Special Editions," which means they have been significantly altered from the theatrical presentations. If they were released in 1997, they should be clearly labeled as such. If they were released in 2000 or beyond, they no longer have this distinction, but they still are. And, as you pointed out, the 2004 DVDs have alterations that include the 1997 alterations but also additional ones.

The laserdisc SE still has Shaw as the end ghost and the DVD has Christensen for example, but the cuts in that scene are different to the original movie and the original laserdiscs.
