Four disc BTTF? I don't think there is such a thing? Not in the US anyway.. Sorry I turned this into a BTTF thread. My sister and I were both sick from school one day so mom let us stay home and we watched my crazy BTTF tape. Having it in WS with DVD quality though.. that would be cool. The way I made it before was I just left all of the credits in, but I think I cut the titles out of 2 and 3. Part 1 ended on the garage door. When Marty opened the garage, it was now Part 2. For part three, I tried to cut it as close to "To be concluded.." appeared on the screen when Marty is trying to wake up Doc, which you don't see on Part III. Part III cuts out as soon as Doc hits the ground.
Anyway, Yes I'm sure there will be plenty of Star Wars next year. I am excited for it all. You know me, I love the prequels and special editions. It's kinda sad that every time I say that I feel the need to clarify with "Seriously, I'm not kidding." To be honest, it really takes a lot for me to not like a movie. As long as it has action/ comedy/ something cool/ something exciting, I love it. So yeah- About Schmidt- hated it. Electra and even BloodRayne- I thought were kinda cool.
Yeah, they bought out the 3 movies a few years ago, then last year they bought out a 4 disc set - the 3 movies plus a bonus disc. I was pretty pissed cause I hate when companies screw over the fans like that (I already have one DVD set, why should I buy another).
So, okay. There is a trilogy set with a fourth disk?
I bought mine second hand so I only have the 3 DVD set. Each disk is PACKED extra stuff (I've just about gotten though everything) so I can't imagine what would be on the 4th disk that I haven't already seen in the extra footage archive on each DVD.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Who has the 4 disk set?
i remember when i was 15 i edited together using VHS all three EVIL DEAD films so its just one long continuous 5 hour film--now that was sweet. And you could see the progression as the comedy was introduced more with each film, starting out as a horror film, becoming somewhat comedic and ending as all-out slapstic.

IT SEEMS AS IF "EVERY OTHER COUNTRY" BUT THE U.S. GOT THE FOUR DISC SET. EVEN WHEN UNIVERSAL RE-RELEASED THE "FIXED" SET "ONE LAST TIME" THE U.S. CONSUMERS STILL ONLY GOT THE 3-DISC SET.
Not quite "every other country"....we Canadians got the same release as you in the States. We almost always do. The only difference is that now all our DVD covers must be in English and French.
Yeah, that's pretty much true, but you're missing one point. The four disc set is the same set as the American's three-disc set. The three-disc set released in Europe didn't have the bonus features, so the new fourth disc is just adding on the stuff they missed before. Don't worry. It's nothing new for us.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.
Well, in this case, fullscreen isn't quite as foolish as you'd think since it's an open matte movie, and you're actually getting more of the picture in fullscreen.

Your not getting the intended area though. Widescreen is not important--Original Aspect Ratio is. Otherwise its just as bad as fullscreen--the point is that the intended composition is ruined.
Sometimes that's the case and sometimes it's not. Like in The Princess Diaries, which was shot in open matte, there ended up being an unintended boom mic in frame on the fullscreen version. But Zemeckis has been quoted as saying that he shot it in 1.33:1 because he knew that more people would end up seeing it on a home format anyway. And Bob Gale said on the commentary that they didn't have any interest shooting it in widescreen because they didn't consider Back to the Future to be a movie suited for any wide angles. It was just matted that way because it had to be so for theatres.

well i suppose you have a point. i would still prefer the matted version since, even though it was covered for open matt, the composition was still chosen with the matt in mind and represents the truest translation of the cinematographers framing, even though the open matt is an acceptable alternate compromise.

Hmmm...Now I don't know what to do. I have the original UK DVD box set, which has awesome packaging (much better than the American version) and has lots of extras, but apparently not as many extras as the American version. So do I buy the UK 4 disc version before I leave, or wait till I get to America and buy the US 3 disc set which apparently has more extras, or do I just keep my 3 disc UK set and not be greedy. Decisions decisions!
I don't think you can even get fullscreen DVDs here. Nobody wants them and it prevents parents etc making mistakes and buying you the fullscreen versions when you wanted the widescreen, but can't complain because it's a gift.

Something about our reinvisioned silver logo on the blue background just looks really good to me. I'm not sure what the matte/satin finish is like, but I hate glossy DVD packaging because it attracts fingerprints like a magnet, and they never go away!

What I don't like about the US one is the picture of Marty and Doc both looking at their watch (it's like the BTTF2 poster but Doc is wearing his BTTF1 clothes). It looks really bad. I don't know if it's original art that was never used or a modern photoshop botch job, but either way it looks poor. The more recent 4 disc box set in the UK has the silver logo on blue you speak of, plus a picture of the delorean. I must admit it's pretty cool:
Hmm, you know, looking at those pictures, if I can find that for cheap before I leave, I might just buy it...

When he says "widescreen" I figured he meant 2.35:1 as opposed to widescreen in general as he goes on to say how one doesn't get good depth of focus with anamorphic widescreen (which is 2.35:1) and the film wasn't epic in scale (an attribute associated with 2.35:1). The home video comment just seems like a trade off situation. He says that at the time they were shooting, 1.77:1 had been chosen as the standard television ratio so he means that if they shot it in 2.35:1, then more of the picture would be cut off for television. So by shooting 1.85:1, the television image (1.77, not 1.33) was closer. I haven't seen Zemeckis's comments though.
Maybe Marty can go back in time and stop Lucas from altering the films again. After the 3-D version there's Star Wars in Smell-o-Vision, Star Wars in Black in White, Star Wars The Musical, and Star Wars with twice the Jar-Jar.
Well I've got the US version and there is a second commentary of Q and A. I haven't listened to it yet (weekend goal) but I think it would be the same as what the UK-ers have.
And on a fun note, I just got my BTTF soundtrack in the mail yesterday. Still sealed and packaged from 1985. I forgot what CD's from the 80's looked like. The casing isn't see-though like today's CDs, and the insert is boring with little to no information about the songs on the CD. Even the CD itself says MCA on it with the list of songs on the disk. Talk about boring. Also the music compression rate was lower in the 80's so I have to crank my player up to 21-22 to get a good loud sound (as opposed to the typical 18-19 for a normal CD). But it was still fun to blast "Power of Love" in my car on the way to school today. And darn it if I didn't want to push my engine to 88 mph. But of course, that would be breaking the speed limit of 55.
